Snow Hedges On Chalabi-Syria Involvement: "My guess is 'No'"

A New York Sun report that Ahmad Chalabi may now be the Bush Administration's point man in reaching out to Syria did not go unnoticed at today's White House briefing. The piece cited "an American diplomat" as saying that Chalabi "was gauging the interest of the Assad regime in a limited rapprochement with America."

Tony Snow professed to not know of any recent U.S. activity with Chalabi, the Iraqi figure known for flirting with American neocons, the Iranians, and the truth with equal abandon, but hedged a bit on what Chalabi might be doing or claiming: "There are also times when people will make claims about what they're doing and the auspices under which they're doing it. And sometimes they're right, sometimes they're wrong."

Tony Snow knows nothing. Why even bother reporting what happens when reporters meet with him? At best, he's a mouth puppet; at worst, he's ignorant but can't and won't admit it.

A few days ago on The Daily Show, John Stewart made fun of the number of times Tony Snow answered a query from the press with "I don't know." Part of the setup was a remark that Tony was approaching Ted William's 400 batting mark. So now the press corps is counting.

It has become the press corps' task at the daily gaggle to ask questions that Tony will respond with "I don't know." It has become Tony Snow's task to think up euphemisms for his ignorance.” Today was euphemism number one.

If Tony achieves 400, the next question will be whether Tony knows Ted Williams’ highest batting average.

The only point of asking Tony Snow a question these days is for talk show hosts to have a little extra inane footage to tack on to their shows as filler, if they are a little short that evening. At least Ari behaved as if anything meaningful was coming out of the mouths of administration officials; and Scott appeard to be too much of a dope to actually perpetuate anything too dangerous. Snow is just another stuffed suit spouting off FOX News' talking points. It's so hard to determine if he still works for them or not.

I think it was Keith Olbermann who did the Tony Snow v. Ted Williams bit.

I agree that it seems like Snow may now be a bit sensitive to not knowing what he doesn't know.

Oh leave him alone. Don't you know that he is dealing with things that are 'known knowns' as well as those things that are 'known unknowns'? Please don't forget as well, that there are things that 'they know they don't know', so in all fairness to Mr Snow pleae ease up a bit.

Thank you.

Tony the snowman, or no-man, take your pick, is in a downhill spiral. The press have got fed up with his tap dancing and the late night comedians are turning him into a joke. Fleischer was a total apparatchik who acted as if he were talking sense, the press were sorry for the fat little WalMart manager, but Snow is just a comedian. This is going to implode over the next few weeks where he will be greeted with laughter when he appears.

Chalabi should be very careful if this turns out to be true. If there were any justice, the CIA would set Chalabi up with a fake meeting at an undisclosed location in Syria only to have him be taken into custody by the Jordanians so he can serve his sentence for fraud. Another of Bush's friends in jail. Go figure.....

Tony Blow knows plenty. But when have we ever seen Tony being honest about anything he knows (or otherwise)?

I'm sick of hearing Tony Snow say "This is what I think" . . he's not salaried by our tax dollars to say what HE thinks, he's paid to speak FOR the White House.

The "I don't know" meme is no excuse, he's paid TO FIND OUT and KNOW before the questions are asked.

Snow is a smirk on legs with nothing behind it, like most of the people in the upper echelons of this dumpster-dregs of an Administration. Credit Cheney: he at least found a snarl that fits and wears it for all occasions.

401 now Keith. Lets face it, Phony Tony doesn't have to worry about anyone asking a follow up question or to explain his answer. George should try it, it would make him look a lot smarter!

Standard response for Tony Snow: "I don't know."

Standard responses for Dick Cheney and Don Rumsfeld: "I haven't read it."

It is altogether fitting and proper that the convicted crook chalabi would be the representative of the pResident in reaching out to one of those that bush has termed part of the "Axis of Evil."

I don't understand how the author of the above article wrote that chalabi was "known for flirting with American neocons...." To follow up on that analogy, when you climb into bed with someone you are considerably beyond the flirting stage.

Why would TS Snow give us any more credable info at the White House than he did on FOX?

It should make Murdock and Roger Ailes proud.

Tony Snow is no Ari Fleischer. The proper response from Tony should be an Ari threat from the past,
"Americans better watch what they say, better watch what they do..."
