GOP Rep's Warning of Muslim Influx: The Letter

Still not trembling at the prospect of "many more Muslims" coming to the U.S.?

The good people at C-Ville Weekly were kind enough to fax over a copy of Rep. Goode's letter (click here for a larger version).

What a disgusting bigot...how shameful that this man represents this country in Congress. I just have nothing more to add.

Perhaps someone ought to remind Representative Goode that Keith Ellison is not an immigrant. He is an African American, born in Detroit, raised as a Roman Catholic, but he converted to Islam while an undergraduate student at Wayne State. There are apparently about two million African Americans who identify as Muslims who are in no way recent immigrants to the US. Are we to understand Goode as making an argument these Americans have limited political rights? That they do not have rights to representation?

If there's one thing about which one can trust Michele Malkin, it's perpetual outrage.

And, I'm sure she's delighted at being published on the "VDARE" website, although I wonder whether the publisher's realize that she's, well, by their standards, not, you know...white.

Imagine if someone looked at that letter and replaced the word muslim with "jew" or "catholic." Maybe then we would here stories of the "bigoted congressman." Sadly, I fear that this won't make it far in the MSM.

Larry Epke wrote on December 20, 2006 1:52 PM:

Rep. Goode's wall contains the Ten Commandments and "In God We Trust." No mention of the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence - I guess to him those don't count either!

Begonia Buzzkill wrote on December 20, 2006 2:08 PM:

So it seems we have missed the court hearing wherein all dogma of Abraham's legacy has been deeded over to the Republican redneck riviera by eminent domain hearings.

That news, like all important information, was probably on the last page under the Tightwad Tuesday two-fer beer coupons.

Paul M Lyren wrote on December 20, 2006 2:19 PM:

Sadly, if you are a real Christian, the 10 Commandments are not what you are supposed to follow any longer. Christ's Sermon on the Mount is the New Covenant between Jesus and his Christian followers. The Old Testament was overwritten by the Beatitudes. These racist morons who have never bothered to question or really learn their Bible are a scourge on the US and the world. It's called fanatacism, and it is sad and boring and it ruins everything as The Bill of Rights and The Constitution cannot be superceded by any religious belief. That is unconstitutional.

I can't say I'm too surprised by this letter, or Rep. Goode's lack of understanding that someone could convert and not be an immigrant. Rep. Goode is obsessed with immigration being the downfall of America. A friend of mine from Charlottesville went to his office on a minimum wage lobby day and all Rep. Goode wanted to talk about was that we would have all of these problems with low wages and poverty and unemployment if it weren't for the immigrants coming into our country, and that he was going to try to push legislation through that would get rid of all these "anchor babies" (his exact term) because that was a big loophole in our immigration laws. He also reportedly said that if they put more funding for a border fence in a bill to raise the minimum wage he'd sign on in a second, because no bill would be any good if we were still being overrun with immigrants.

And that is the Virgil Goode position on immigration he says we all need to adopt. Rep. Virgil Goode-defending America from diversity since 1996.

Yep. I think that's EXACTLY what we're to understand Rep. Goode as saying. And really, it goes farther then that- in his 'traditional America,' women, the poor, and African-Americans also don't deserve crazy liberal ideas like the vote.

Joi wrote on December 20, 2006 3:05 PM:

Greetings from Charlottesville. I had to wonder the same thing: was Goode implying all the voters in Ellison's district were illegal? that Ellison, himself, was illegal? or that only illegal voters support muslim candidates. Obviously, you can take Goode's swill at face value and decide it means little more than the xenophobic pandering of a crook.
Virgil Goode (and his supporters) are a pox on this state. Not everyone in Virginia subscribes to his views, mirrors his ignorance, or supports his fear-based philosophy. If you don't believe me, ask Macaca Allen. :) Peace.

shilohtd wrote on December 20, 2006 4:46 PM:

Well there is no disputing Rep. Good is an embarrassment to the country and to his district personally I would probably not display the Koran on my wall. I have some lovely Arabic calligraphy that would easily find its way on there but the Koran (or the ten commandments for that matter) would probably not go onto the wall of my office.

eric wrote on December 20, 2006 4:50 PM:

The story is now on the front page at the Strib.

It's bizzare how this moron seems to think that immigrants had something to do with electing Ellison. Here in Minneapolis, we do have a large Somoali immigrant population, but let's get serious - this is Minnesota and it's still a pretty white place populated by people that immigrated from Scandinavia a few generations ago.

Paul Ginandes wrote on December 20, 2006 5:04 PM:

Rep. Goode's comments reveal his position as a Christian Dominionist. He would like to create an America where the bible is the law above all others. It's even more important than ever to resist this kind of evil, un-American thinking. Please oppose it wherever you find it. Currently Rep. Goode is a co-sponsor of the Constitution Restoration Act, a bill which would impose biblical law in America, and deny the rights of individuals to appeal those decisions to the Supreme Court of the US
I know it sounds whacko, but it's true. They are parading this hideous piece of abusive legislation under the misleading description that it will allow ten commandments monuments, and nativity scenes on government property, but it goes way beyond that. Rep. Goode wants to be able to have citizens tried and convicted for breaking bible law, and prevent them from appealing those convictions.
Have an affair? Go to jail.
Have gay sex? Get executed.
Say something against the christian god? Pay a massive fine or go to jail.
Praise Buddha that I still have the religious freedom to speak out.

what I'm being handed from all around are books of fear. I wonder about the difference between faith and fear, one a willingness to believe, a trust, and one a conventional call to be afraid ... even of myself, or ourselves. Where do hatred and a sensation of oneness intersect, and who are these creatures that hope to exploit this "opening" into a human being's desire for purpose?

Archie Levine wrote on December 21, 2006 5:23 PM:

When questioned about the letter, Goode replied "I wrote the letter. I think it speaks for itself."

Indeed it does, sir. Indeed it does. And what it says is repugnant, hateful, and so contrary to the spirit, mission, and purpose of this nation that I can't believe you have not been pulled from your office and treated to good old conservative tar and feathers, and a trip out of Washington tied to a rail.

This is why the founding fathers put into the Constitution the Establishment Clause, and I ask you, sir, how it is that you can take an oath to defend the Constitution so seriously that you demand that oath be taken upon your holiest book, and yet refuse to apply those constitutional principles evenly, and fairly to all those whom you represent and who are protected by them?

Radical Religious Extremism and hate mongering disguised as partiotism are the tools of the enemy we are supposedly fighting against. I am ashamed of you, Virgil Goode, you are an embarrassment and a danger to all that this country stands for. If you cannot do the job to which you were elected, if you cannot fulfil your oath to protect and preserve the Constitution and the principles it was designed to ensure, you should resign and never more seek public office.

Timothy Cavanaugh wrote on December 22, 2006 1:37 PM:

Beyond the vileness of Mr. Goode's anti-"anything that conflicts with my thinking" comments he also did not answer the Muslim student’s question. all he did was reinforce his objection to the Koran. Classic politician-speak.

I think people should be very aware when the government is run by "religious" leaders. You get the forced emigration of Jews from various countries. People killed for watching soccer games.Destruction of various works of art because they represent a figure of the religion not in charge. Also the people are treated like little children who are not capable of thinking for themselves.

Think what would happen to this country if people like Virgil Goode. Also what kind of people vote for a man who is so ignorant and intolerant?

Actually, he probably doesn't have the Bible on the wall in his office either, so it's probably OK to tell his fictitious "Muslim student" that he's not planning to put a Koran up there. Most people I know aren't in the habit of hanging books on their walls. That said, I wonder what planet he thinks he's living on. Maybe he's found a source of some decent "Christian" gasoline to pump into that triple-wide SUV I have no doubt he drives. The guy makes a great case for why this whole War On Terror©® thing is a load of horsecrap in the first place. He thinks not allowing people to put their hand on the Koran is somehow going to make this country safe. I think he's probably had a gallon or two too much Koolaid.

May I crave your attention to a proposal that you may find interesting on careful observation, first my name is Barrister Collins Madu an officer at the court and the Personal Attorney to (Mr Andrew Lugton), who was a formal contractor with Nigerian National Petroleum cooperation (NNPC) until his death on the 31st January 2000 on board the Alaska Airlines Flight 261 which crashed,I have made several enquiries to your Usa embassy to locate any of my clients extended relatives this has proved unsuccessful. After these several unsuccessful attempts, I decided to trace his relatives over the Internet, to locate any member of his family but of no avail, hence I contacted you, because I am confronted with a situation that I alone can not handle but with the help of a second party, we can see reason to it.

I contacted you to assist me in repatriating the money and property left behind by my client before they get confiscated or declared unserviceable by the bank where this huge deposit were lodged and some other estate values, Particularly the Bank where the deceased had an account valued at about $9.5 million
dollars.Consequently, the bank issued me a notice to provide the next of kin or have the account confiscated within the next few official working days, since no one has come fort to stand as the owner of the account or the beneficiary/next of kin to my late diseased client,

Since I have been unsuccessfully in locating any relatives nor thigh of my late clients for over 4years
since the incident occurred now I seek your consent to present you as the next of kin of the my deceased client since you are a foreigner maybe same country so that the proceeds of this account valued at $9.5 million dollars can be paid to you as the beneficiary claimant/ next of kin and then you and I can share the money 50% to me and 40% to you, while 10% should be for expenses or tax as your government may require.I have all necessary legal documents that can be used to back up any claim we are oing to make. All I require is your honest cooperation to enable us seeing this deal through. I guarantee that this will be executed under a legitimate arrangement that will protect you and me from any breach of the law as I will not like to get into trouble with the authority.

Please on your acceptance to go through this project with me, get in touch with me for further information Via this email (I.d)barr_cminfobox@myway.com
