Reminds me of Ted Stevens' similar whine about resigning if his bridge to nowhere earmark went instead to those katrina deadbeats...

That makes Eddie Izzard's "Cake... or Death?" sound like a difficult decision.

mbbsdphil wrote on February 7, 2007 12:35 PM:Senator, you're teasing. Ted Stevens got all us girls so excited with that same line, then couldn't perform as promised. Disappointing.
Please, Senator, be the first to go. And go quickly. What idiot would publicly promise to resign -- when he has no intention of doing so -- because his employer threatens to require him to be more ethical, or at least to quickly and publicly disclose his dealings with those most likely to corrupt him?
To paraphrase Molly Ivins, every village loses its idiot when Congress is in session.

Thank you. I needed a laugh. I've been going round and round with the rightwingers at cspansucks. It gets old.

I am predicting a run on orange jumpsuits by Republican law-makers if the bill becomes law . . . Like a potato chip addict with a freshly open bag o' chips, they can not help themselves.
Neal Borelli wrote on February 7, 2007 1:58 PM:I don't think you all understand where Tom Colburn is coming from. The reason he objects to the new bill is that it isn't strict enough. He is the one who co-sponsored the bill with Senator Obama to create a public database of all earmarks. I refer you to this article for more on Mr. Colburn: http://men.style.com/gq/features/landing?id=content_5318
Neal Borelli wrote on February 7, 2007 2:10 PM:I just wanted to add that you really shouldn't get your news from Fox News. Most Republicans hate Senator Colburn and Fox is simply using his objection to the bill as a way to attack him.
Shamus wrote on February 7, 2007 2:18 PM:Neal, the AP story quotes Coburn as saying that "An honest mistake could cost a lawmaker $500,000 to defend himself." That doens't sound like a senator who thinks the bill isn't tough enough.
However, I do find his opposition perplexing. Coburn has been vocal in his opposition to earmarking. He was one of the most vocal critics of Ted "Tubes" Stevens' bridge to nowhere. There is obviously more to this story than meets the eye.
Neal Borelli wrote on February 7, 2007 2:26 PM:I agree Shamus. As a liberal, I certainly don't like Colburn's positions on social policy, but I have to respect that he has fought the good fight in the past. Maybe he is concerned about politicians being entrapped by the new law, who knows. But in any event, I just wanted to point out we shouldn't assume he is evil just because he is a Republican.
Max Edison wrote on February 7, 2007 3:22 PM:Sen. Colburn is an idiot, who in his last campaign claimed that lesbianism was rampant in public schools in Oklahoma.
Adios, Senator, and don't let the door hit ya where the Good Lord split ya.
AlwayzADem wrote on February 7, 2007 4:29 PM:Hey, Coburn!! Is that a REAL promise? Or a Ted-Stevens-version of a promise?
Swear it on the Quran???

A village will gain an idiot when he returns home.
