Cheney: Lil' Ol' Me?

From the AP:

Vice President Dick Cheney seemed surprised in 2003 when told where his chief of staff had learned the identity of CIA officer Valerie Plame.

"From me?" Cheney asked, tilting his head, according to the grand jury testimony of the aide, I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, who is on trial on charges of perjury, obstruction and lying to the FBI....

"He didn't say much, something about 'from me?'" Libby told the grand jury. The vice president "tilted his head, something he does commonly, and that was that," Libby recalled.

I've been a reader and fan of TPM for sometime, but have never emailed you a comment. So, I am this is the appropriate forum for this question.

Does TPM have a regular feature or column that lists important questions that the Washington News Corps and or White House News Corps have not asked and might consider asking? If not, I think that would be a terrific idea and I think you would get a lot of interest, especially now.

One question, among many that I have I think are pertinent is Are We Really At War in Iraq?

If asked in a press conference, I think this would flush out a lot of fuzzy thinking that is leading to historic policy failures and serious financial consequences for our country.

To me the current conflict in Iraq is not part of the 'War on Terrorism', and it really is not a 'war.' I would argue, and perhaps a noted military advisor could weigh in on this like Pat Lang, what we have now is a very complex 'Peace Keeping Mission!

And if that is so, why haven't the Democrats brought this up in their debate. It would fundamentally change the debate. It seems to me in reading the War Powers Act of 1973, that a brand new resolution is required. In my view, the rug would be pulled on the Administration and the Republican leaders and all this nonsense that 'We Are at War would be seen for what it is, a perfect cover for their radical right-wing policies.

Would like some feedback.

Many thanks,

Ron

"This is not the Vice-President you're looking for..."

Its all about the "COVER-UP,"to "protect Cheney from being prosecuted, and brought to trial for his own role, which has now been revealed. So this trial has made both motive and intent for the outing abundantly clear that, Cheney was involved from the very beginning of the leaking of Valerie Plame Wilson's identity to the press. The whole matter of leaking the identity of an undercover CIA operative, starts and ends with Cheney himself.

brf,

I think you've hit the nail on the head. The Libby trial is all about Cheney. Following the proceedings you can't help but feel like Fitzgerald is trying Cheney through Libby. It actually makes the whole thing make a bit of sense. Otherwise, why go after Libby with such vehemence for the perjury charge. He could almost have certainly gotten some sort of deal with Libby on that. But all the testimony at the trial so far has implicated Cheney.

Someone needs to contact the TPM folk and tell them that they got the wrong pict matched to this story . . . It appears that they got the photo of the Penguin from the next Batman movie posted up at the top of the page.
