Senate Intel Chair: Pentagon Office DID Break The Law

As vice chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) was often outmaneuvered by GOP chair Pat Roberts (R-KS), when it came to prewar intelligence. In response to the Pentagon inspector general's report on the Office of Special Plans, however, Rockefeller is hinting that era is fully closed. From a Rockefeller statement, just released:

“The IG has concluded that this office was engaged in intelligence activities. The Senate Intelligence Committee was never informed of these activities. Whether these actions were authorized or not, it appears that they were not in compliance with the law.

“In the coming days, I will carefully review all aspects of the report and will consult with Vice Chairman Bond to determine whether any additional action by the Senate Intelligence Committee is warranted.”

You mean "isn't" closed?

That's a good start. Any chance they'll investigate the OVP's involvement as a follow-up?

A good start? It just seems to me that after six years of an avalanche of mis-deeds, un-constitutional usurpations, skullduggery involved in handing out BILLIONS upon BILLIONS of dollars fraudulently (some of it involving the most dastardly business of war-profiteering), election fraud and election-day hi-jinx in 2004, and on and on...that our Democratic Congressmen/women and Senators are moving at a languid pace to get to the bottom of the many scandals.

Senator Reid, in particular, is devoid of any success in building much solid co-operation with those GOP'er's who are more and more troubled by the failures of their party's leadership.

Maybe we need a ML like Dodd who could focus attention on his fellow Senator from Israel...oops, er, Connecticut, with the idea of further changes to come in 2008.

This scenario isn't going anywhere, just like all the other "committee investigations".

The Republicans are going to stall it and continue to cover it up via Sen. Roberts, the former chairman of the committee who has covered it up for the past four years.

The Democrats are going to have to chose where to put their energies; social security, medical benefit reform, revising all laws that have given Bush/Cheney carte blanch to do whatever they want to circumvent all laws that are in their way, (especially via the so-called "Patriot Acts) control of the federal budget not to mention the national debt...the list is endless.

They won't have time to investigate much of anything at all, and those who have broken the laws including Bush/Cheney will get away with it until their ilk are back in office again, then they'll pick up right where they left off - selling the country down the road (and their friends making money off of the blood of American soldiers).

Sadly, too many Americans can only focus on what's happening "right now" and don't remember what happened yesterday.

Give the neocons time...they waited ten years to "finish the job" in Iraq, what's another ten years to them?

You don't have to be a blind conservative not to see it, just an ignorant one to deny it.

I just read that the 110th Congress has held 52 oversight hearings in its first month. That's about 52 more than the 109th Congress held in 24 months. It doesn't really sound to me like the Dems are slacking off.

SeeDee wrote on February 8, 2007 10:56 PM:

and what actions, indictments, changes have ensued from the '52 oversight hearings', chimpeach?

Maybe they just don't make enough noise.

The point is to needle them on a daily basis. To hope the press or the Muckrakers pick up on the story. To put the fear of God into them!

SeeDee,

What is up with your reoccuring shots at Israel?

The haste I see and hear people callling for is a bit disturbing. I recognize the cascading (overwelming) amount of crap the other side has puuled and the damage they have inflicted. BUT what I crave is justice. What I desire is for this fascist crap to be torn up by its roots, the roots to be exposed to sunlight of truth and for those roots to whither and die and never have the chance to grow again. Quick justice placates the masses (and I'm not against a few public hangings along the way).

Real justice takes time. Actual tangible evidence needs to be gather. I do not want to march lock step into a vengeful sweep of terror. I want the real 'evil-doers' punish AND I want the good folk taught to remember why.

We live in a fast . . . potential knee-jerk . . . society. I prefer my justice slow-roasted and recorded for posterity.

I don't want this to be a hasty bandaid . . . the rapture right need to know that they backed the dark horse. The power need to operate from ethics. Justice needs to burn righteousness into the right.

Graft and corruption will get the public's attention. With all those billions of dollars being kicked around like footballs, surely some well-placed republicans picked up and pocketed a few loose balls here and there. We know VP Cheney still to this day collects millions of dollars from his grease job for Halliburton. And Cheney expected kickbacks from the oil companies when he divided up the world for conquest and exploitation with his energy task force. Congress should, as they said in Watergate, follow the money!

I went back and looked for SeeDee's shot at Israel. If that's what it was, it was pretty puny. As for Liebermann, however, you don't mind if we call a spade a spade, do you?

The Dems have been in power for one month. They are laying pretty good groundwork in spite of Republican obstructionism. Lets all see what they're up to in June.
Illegal action, especially illegal action that results in people dying, needs to be prosecuted but they/we have to lay the groundwork.
Right now we need to stop these fools from bombing Iran.

Half the population was scammed into believing the truth about the war and our need to attack.
Can you imagine if the truth ever was revealed ???

Lay the ground work. Let the average citizen know what went on the last 6 years. Hope the MSM covers it. Then, when enough is out and the last supporters of the administration realize they have been supporting crooks, nail Bush, Cheney et al.

Is this possibly the beginning of the unearthing of the neo-conservative/Israel connection and why we went to war in Iraq for Israel?
