Senate Intel Chair: We Need More

Just because the Pentagon IG report has been completed doesn't mean the Office of Special Plans matter is closed.

According to Wendy Morigi, spokeswoman for Senate intelligence committee chairman Jay Rockefeller (D-WV), committee staff reviewed the inspector general's report and identified "additional documents and interview transcripts" that the committee doesn't yet have related to the OSP. Today the committee asked for that information from the Pentagon IG's office.

Before determining whether or not the intelligence committee's "Phase II" investigation -- scheduled for completion around the spring or early summer -- needs to go over the question of OSP's role, Morigi said, the staff wants to have the newly-identified material. Morigi wouldn't describe what that material is, but she described it as "foundational" to the IG's judgments.

What jumped out at me from the Pentagon IG's testimony before the Armed Services committee was that the OSP's intel briefings were tweaked depending on who the audience was. I'd be willing to wager that's the thread that's going to pay off: who was told what, and by whose instruction.

So, the Pentagon's Inspector Generals office has been compromised?

Gee, who would have figured?

I mean, who could have ever guessed that "fixing the intelligence" to fit a preemptive Iraq War "policy" was completely legal because it was authorized by top "culture of corruption" Republicans in the White House, who have a disturbing tendency of attaching "signing statements" to supposedly legally-binding legislation constitutionally passed by Congress so the "culture of corruption" Republicans can literally get away with murder.

Of course, now everything is okay because the Pentagon Inspector General (or PIG office, as I like to call it) has given his blessing. How convenient. How surreal. How criminally insane.
