Sounds to me like Armitage was strenuously pushing a WH line (that "Wilson's a jerk" and "his wife sent him") with origins several weeks earlier, I'd guess in May, than the post-Wilson op-ed timeline commonly used in discussing how this all happened.

The trial is about Libby lying to investigators and the grand jury though, not simply forgetting but fabricating to hide information, so I don't think the Armitage info affects the trial - but I'm no lawyer, they're clever.

Fitzgerald knew about Armitage and Novak when he started the investigation but not Armitage and Woodward (he learned that just before his indictment deadline). I'd be interested to know if Fitzgerald questioned people about events in May 2003 or earlier.
