Gonzales: "What Else Do You Want Us To Do?"

From The Washington Post:

Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales met privately with top members of the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday to offer an olive branch, but he did not seem too happy about it.

Gonzales had agreed to let Congress limit his powers and interview Justice Department officials as part of an escalating battle over the firings of eight U.S. attorneys. He knew that another scandal on FBI abuses was about to break and that some GOP lawmakers were hinting that he was in over his head.

"What else do you want us to do?" the normally taciturn Gonzales asked in exasperation, according to several officials with knowledge of the meeting.

Resign?
Publically apologize?
Throw Rove under the bus?

1. Reinstate the fired prosecutors.

2. Where that isn’t possible, immediately submit the names of the Interim AGA’s for confirmation.

3. Appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the obstruction of justice.

4. Resign in shame.

Um.....

Start acting like the people's attorney instead of the personal attorney for the Village Idiot living at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

1) Tell all - even the stuff the senate committee is not asking about. Throw Bush, Cheney, Wolfowitz, Hadley, Fieth, Hariett Miers, Condi Rice, Rumsfeld, Abramoff under the bus.

2) Resign.

3) Serve time in prison for supporting, stolen elections, crimes against humanity, subversion of the constitution.

Gonzales, Bush, Cheney, Condi, Rove and the neocons have taken us down the road to fascism. We must oust Gonzales. We must be unrelenting in our special investigations and attempts to overturn the corruption and abuses of power that have threatened to destroy our freedoms in a march towards perpetual war.

"What else?" Read the Constitution. Reflect on the job the Attorney General ought to doing. Resign. And open up the shop for the necessary investigation of how else the Justice Dept's function has been corrupted for partisan political gain.

How about you having foreign soldiers strip you naked, hold you in a cell with extreme temperature changes for years on end, deprive you of sleep, play loud music 24/7, have you live in your own feces, have people urinate on you, women pour their menstrual blood on you, rape you, beat you to an inch of your life and water-board your ass!

After which you can apologize for your despicable life, turn on bush and be dragged to the Hague to be put on trial, found guilty of crimes against humanity and maybe for your co-operation we'll let you live the rest of your miserable life out in a deep dark hole instead of being hanged!

Hah, now there's an idea. He has to use all of the techniques he's employed against the US citizenry and the US' political prisoners the world over to bring those in the administration who have paved the way here (including himself? we'll see how he does). There may even be a movie plot here. It could star Harrison Ford and Jim Carrey.

How about following the law?

They're obviously so used to being allowed to do whatever they want without repercussions that they can't comprehend it when that suddenly is no longer the case.

"What Else Do You Want Us To Do?"

They think that if they do something symbolic then this will just go away on its own. Like a spoiled kid having been caught doing something that a hollow apology won't be enough to let him off the hook, and suddenly faced with responsibility and consequences.

Put those fired prosecutors back on the job, NOW.

Then resign or face impeachment.

How is it limiting his powers for Justice Department officials to testify before Congress? Where in the Constitution does it talk about this supposed power of his to obstruct Congressional oversight or stop someone from obeying a Congressional subpoena?

As Chuck Schumer said "I think for the sake of the nation, Atty. Gen. Gonzales should step down."

I don't know maybe he could support subpoeneaing Rove to get to the bottom of the political fellatio that is going on here.

O.k., it's time for some internets research... I wonder, as someone mentioned on TPM, about cases that never made it to trial. I'm looking for specific cases, and most importantly whether or not the desire to prosecute changed when the USA was switched out for someone else. The reason being that these are potential obstruction of justice cases -- if Rove was the "conduit" for any of these firings, and if he had a hand in removing those USAs, then he could possibly be charged with obstruction.

The other key quote in that WAPO piece:

"Bush said yesterday that his administration is working to halt law enforcement abuses of new anti-terrorism intelligence-gathering powers..."

Hmmm. I thought he was 'the decider'. Guess not.

What else do we want you to do? 5 SIMPLE STEPS!

RESIGN!! Mr. Gonzales--that would be step 1. Then the new AG can:

REHIRE the fired investigators--step 2.

FREEZE all assets of Halliburton, Parsons and any company that has profited by this illegal war--step 3.

Have the new AG start prosecuting Republican lies and crimes beginning with the Oval Office occupant and his cronies including Shooter Cheney!--step 4.

RESTORE ALL AMERICANS RIGHTS--step 5.

Gonzales will make the appropriate noises to Congress and swear "it'll never happen again" and then immediately continue his egregiously hyperpartisan and illegal activities on behalf of Bush and the Republican Party.

Speaking of research . . .

Has anyone done an overlay of Districts effected by US Attorney replacements AND Congressional Districts and Senate seats in play during the upcoming 2008 election. What is the racial make-up of the areas involved? Are caging lists being drawn up by the RNC as I type?
