Gonzales: I'm Staying for "The Kids"

He makes a point. Sure, his leadership at the Justice Department has perverted the rule of law in an attempt to turn the nation's top law enforcement officials into agents of the Republican Party... but think of the children.

Fantastic.
His obstinance and petulance (as well as the Bush-monkey's similar attitude) will keep this issue in the news and public eye for weeks if not months.

Hiding behind the children. Whatta guy.

The selected strategy here is very obvious and straight from the Nixon playbook -- and hinted at in David Broder's weekend column stating the Dems. are too busy holding hearings and not passing important legislation. Let's just call all of this the operative meme.

Within this operative meme, we see Bush et al. erecting the following pillars:

a) All investigations are petty partisanship.
b) All investigations are "fishing expeditions."
c) Dems. refuse to focus on the important issues facing our nation.
d) Dems are obstructionists.
e) Dems have nothing positive to offer the country.
f) Rs, on the other hand, are out there trying to help ... "kids."
g) Dems. are opposed to helping kids and Americans.

You can see that by erecting this framework, Bush et al. have an edifice in which to place every single scandal or oversight investigation that comes along ...

Watch for it.

Just the kids? Why not the women also?

Maybe he's saving that for when the background panel reads "Project Safety Moms".

Wow, that's novel. Usually you hear the family excuse when their butts are headed for the door. Now what excuse will he give when he leaves?

cmc wrote on March 22, 2007 1:06 PM:

Wasn't Mark Foley in it "for the kids" too?

Robin Boerner wrote on March 22, 2007 1:11 PM:

Are we sure he wasn't referring to Bush and Rove?

Did he say spoiled, evil, Chuckie-like kids?

Douglas Watts wrote on March 22, 2007 1:13 PM:

some kids might know something about 9/11 and haven't been tortured yet ...

of course !!!

Richard L. Adlof wrote on March 22, 2007 1:21 PM:

Silly willy nilly ol' bears:

You think that Gone-lawless is implying that he wants to protect kids . . . When he is clearly saying that his papers on the right and obligation to torture kids and eliminating all labor protection practices for children are not yet complete.

Come over to the dark-side . . . This all is far more clear when viewed from over here.

So the WH is going political by rounding up Hispanic support for Gonzales. Maybe we should ask those Hispanic groups why they don't care about how David Iglesias was treated by a fellow Hispanic, Alberto Gonzales.

Remember David Iglesias? He is the one who got fired by Alberto Gonzlales because he refused to pursue phony GOP claims against Hispanic voters. David Iglesias also refused to railroad an Hispanic politician at the behest of some of the most powerful non-Hispanic politicians in New Mexico.

If I were Hispanic, I'd be more concerned about how an honest, hardworking, patriotic and very intelligent Hispanic, David Iglesias, had his sterling reputation smeared by Alberto Gonzales. David Iglesias and Alberto Gonzales are no different in that they both worked their way out of poverty but Albert Gonzales did not care what his fellow Hispanic had achieved in life.

Those Hispanic groups ought to think about how far Gonzales went to run Iglesias's name into the dirt. Charging Iglesias with excessive absenteeism for serving in the Naval Reserve was despicable and the height of hypocrisy from an administration that pretends to care about those who serve in the military.

Those Hispanic groups can rush to support Allberto Gonzales but if they don't speak up for David Iglesias, it will be clear to us ordinary folks that they are interested only in advancing their own political agenda and do not about how Hispanics like David Iglesias are treated in this country.

If I were a Democrat with a voice, I would remind Hispanic people every day about how David Iglesias was treated by his own government and his own party.

How about how two honorable Hispanics doing their job Campean and Ramos got treated by a Bush White Boy with a hard-on and USA status....Johnny Sutton?

One of the names being floated as a possible replacement for Gonzales

Josh mentioned that Bush kept using the term "resignation" in his speech...I noticed that and it bugged me. What a fucking liar! Confuse, lie and obfuscate. Bolten made me want to hurl on NPR last night. These guys are crooks. So measured in the language, so sure of themselves in their lies and spin. T. Snow ain't so sure, though. The patina's wearing a little thin on his appearance. He's kinda getting the Scotty treatment from the big boys.

Mrs Panstreppon wrote on March 22, 2007 1:49 PM:

I didn't see Bolten on NPR but I did see him interviewed by Jon Stewart two nights ago. Last night, Stewart made mincemeat of Bolton by having Doris Kearns Goodwin weigh in on Bolten's idiocy.

Watch the re-run of the Daily Show today if you can. You will feel much better.

Why isn't Alberto Gonzales a member of the DC bar?

jimbo92107 wrote on March 22, 2007 5:04 PM:

What kind of thug would use "kids" as an excuse to rig America's judicial system to block impeachment and prosecution of Republican crimes?

Gonzalez's behavior is getting more and more bizarre. Talk about grasping at straws...

juno jones wrote on March 22, 2007 8:40 PM:

For the kids,eh? Those same kids he and John Woo (I think that's the name) said could have their testicles crushed if it would make their parents confess to whatever 'crime' was on the table...yeah right, pull the other, it's got bells on...

Daniel DiRito wrote on March 23, 2007 1:36 AM:

OK, so today Alberto Gonzales told us he is working tirelessly to be sure he has every American's back covered...especially our children.

I don’t know about anyone else but I’ve always been suspicious of the guy that seems to go out of his way to tell you he’s "got your back covered".

See a sarcastic visual that demonstrates how many Americans feel when the Attorney General reassures us that he's got our backs covered...here:
