Gonzales: I "Should Be More Careful"

Sen Chuck Grassley (R-IA) began the afternoon questioning by asking simply why there have been so many inconsistencies in Gonzales’ statements.

Gonzales said that when he gave the March 13th press conference, he hadn’t gone back and looked at the documents or his calendar, and that “in hindsight,” his statements were too broad. He rushed to go public, he said, because he felt “a tremendous need to come out quickly and defend the department.” I “should be more careful,” Gonzales said.

This would seem to vindicate Sen. Specter’s earlier line of questioning (or berating), when Gonzales said that he’d been prepared for that March 13th press conference.

Should've been more careful?

How could he be any less?

Finally, someone comes out point-blank and says the Attorney General should be fired (Coburn). Senators are going to get a second round to question him, I think we'll hear more conclusive statements like that. I hope we do -- AG Gonzales has demonstrated that he's definitely not qualified to do his job.

WOW! Coburn, of all people has specifically told Gonzalez to resign.

code: seem (as in 'seems like the end of the line)

A key element of the Orwellian practise of doublespeak is to hold two dimetrically opposed ideas in ones head at all times . . . We have finally found something Gone-lawless is good at.

So, the USAs didn't perform up to your standards, and you didn't perform up to our standards. Why are you still AG?

None of those appointed by Rove and Bush are qualified. All rose up the ranks based on party loyalty or being a member of the Federalist Society or going to Regent College. For that matter Bush isnt qualified to be president, Harris stole the electoral votes for him and they were stolen again in Ohio. Mark my words, any close elections will be stolen, if there are Republican AG's or if they have to go to the Sypremem Court.

Great. Does "I should have been more careful" mean that Abu should have been more dilligent in his work, or that he should have covered his ass more effectively? The first interpretation implicates his incompetence, and the second his corrupt motives - which AT BEST, leaves us where we began if those are our two choices.

Asshole.

code: "fire." That one is way too easy.

Code word is "safe".

No we are NOT! 2008 Elections? Much could happen to them (and to prevent them). Leiberman must be getting intense pressure to jump ship. Every Dem senator should avoid flying in small planes.

These guys are serious about having to stay in power.

"Well, Senator, I'd have to say that I just care too much."

Gonzo is taking one for the team here, make it about my incompetence instead of the real issue which is politicization of the DoJ. Even his testimony makes him sound incompetent to run DoJ, or even pour OJ...so how coudl such an incompetent boob really be responsible for the greatest political shift in DoJ since the Nixeon era???

Did anyone else happen to hear, in this clip at a point 18 seconds from the end....someone in the audience, as Gonzales is speaking calls out.."Will you stop lying?"

At least SOMEONE in the room had the guts to say it. Gonzales kept saying he "mispoke" and to my knowledge, not a single Senator used the word lie (although several as much as said that was what he was doing.)

Meanwhile, Senator Reid FINALLY comes out and says whatever one knows when speaking to the president....."We have lost this war."

The American public has known that for over a year Senator. That's why they voted the Republicans out of power. That is why polls show 2/3rds of us want to end this war now and bring our troops home and start trying to restore the hideous damage this administration has done to our stature in the world, our military, our economy.....and most of all...the truth.
