Gonzales: I'd Do It Again

Unlike Kyle Sampson, Alberto Gonzales would do all it over again.

At least, that’s what he maintained under questioning by Sen. Ben Cardin (D-MD). “I’ve thought about this a lot,” Gonzales said, adding that based on what he knows today, he has no information that the firings were “in fact based on improper motives.”

Why is Sen. Kyl asking about internet gambling? I'm guessing that since Gonzo is doing so bad at the current grilling, he feels it would better to talk about other things.

Is John Kyl insane?

C. Turner: Yes, yes he is.

I am ashamed to say that he is the senator from my state.

I've decided...he's trying to look like a moron as much as possible to shield others.

I can't imagine anything else, honestly.

Believe it or not, there is a sizable internet gambling community that was up in arms about Gonzalez's moves (via his handpicked USA in St. Louis) against Costa Rican based internet gambling sites. I recall seeing some webtraffic on the right just before the election that this issue was going to cost votes among the libertarian crowd. I think that Kyl might see a way to make some bones with that crowd, since Gonzalez is clearly going down.

While it might have been nice of Kyl to try and fellate Gonzo on tv I found it highly inappropriate.

finally, someone to ask "Pick a statement and stick to it so we can question you about it"

So is it a common tactic to hijack hearing like Kyl and now Specter are doing?

What Gonzales means: We have worked hard to keep any evidence of improper firings being made available by using RNC e-mail, and non-transcibed meetings. I only admit that my name is Alberto Gonzales because you already have documentation confriming that. I will only give my name, rank, and serial number.

rnc emails....emptywheel over at FDL wants someone to ask Gonzales:

Did Karl Rove turn over the emails relating to Plame in the initial disclosure? You reviewed EVERY one of the files from WH. Did Rove include the RNC emails?
