Goodling on Dep. AG Testimony

Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) pressed Goodling on how the Deputy Attorney General Paul McNulty had not been "not fully candid" in his testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee in February about the level of the White House involvement in the U.S. attorney firings.

Goodling said that she "didn't withhold" any information, but that McNulty "didn't use all of it." When Nadler asked Goodling if McNulty had potentially perjured himself, Goodling said "those are the conclusions for others to draw."

Update: You can read Goodling's prolonged accounting of how the deputy attorney general misled the committee in her lengthy written statement here (pdf).

Why can't any of these folks ever answer a question directly.

How about - "no, not in my opinion." or better yet "no".

I'm not sure that anyone laid a glove on the admin, yet. Monica is smart, and she has a committed GOPer hi powered attorney. I was disgusted by the "gentleman from Ca" - the former State AG. He was only interested in runnung interference for Bushco. THIS is why the GOPers must be destroyed as a party, come '08.

Strategy

1. Blame Sampson and McNulty (Already fired) for all the ills.
2. Minimize her known role in working with Jennings in dealing with Griffin.
3. Be FULLY candid about her Hatch act violations, for which she has immunity.

She is being a Loyal Bushie, obscuring the WH role.
She continues her mission of serving the administration, but not the Constitution.
Traitor.

Dems need to:
1. Forget her nasty Hatch Act Violations
2. Focus on her role with Jennings and Griffin.
3. Focus on her role in the coverup. Who was asking her to research firing justifications? Was there any Justification that she saw, before the firing?

My students are big propnents of the hip-hop "stop snitching" campaign. Rappers are using their celebrity to encourage their fans to do everything they can to avoid helping authorities with oversight of crime or breaking the rules.

Honestly, I thought it was just a high school thing. I'm trying to figure out how to tell them that with the Bush Administration, "stop snitching" is the code they live by. Of course, with my kids, there is loyalty involved--they don't blame anyone for anything. The Bush Administration is different--they eat their wounded.

Just when I think the Bushies could not make me more disgusted... I mean, what will they think of next?

TheraP has it exactly right. If this all that's being offered, why on earth was this woman granted immunity?

Security code is pain! How appropriate!

I can't listen anymore. That whiny nasal voice is scraping my eardrums raw.
That shiny virginal squeaky clean decorum is much too plastic.
If I had to work in close proximity to her ( or any of her ilk ) for more than 5 minutes, I would go right out of my furry lil mind. Shudder.....

Fortunately, there is the transcript which will be up in a few days, and of course these updates by Paul.

Now we're getting it. She agrees that Gonzo's a liar.

Those contradictions between her and Gonzo's statements are key and major.

SC = foot. As in, mouth meet foot, Gonzo.

This vote was initiated by a Republican in order to disrupt productive questioning: Goodling was finally forced to make a statement of opinion, instead of leaving it to others unidentified. Finally forced to answer a question committedly: that, yes, Gonzo is a liar.

What matters as to strategy is to get the principles to turn on each other. Goodling has already nailed several others. And admitted to having knowingly violated the law. And has agreed that Gonzo is a lawyer.

Ignore all the irrelvant Republican efforts to distract.

I also say: Get her ass in again in a week or two for another round. By then there will be sharper means to break down her defenses -- which are already beginning to crumble.

The questions from the Democrat from AL, like those from Jackson Lee, are excellent.

JNagarya wrote on May 23, 2007 3:28 PM:

Correction --

And has agreed that Gonzo is a LIAR.

JNagarya wrote on May 23, 2007 3:47 PM:

This stuff on MN and Polouse is fascinating -- and a series of good questions from Democrats.

And Polouse was selected for political reasons. Competence? Screw that: she's can recite the Lord's Prayer from memory.

The efforts to disrupt by the Republican't [handle the truth] was only mildly effective.

SC = snake. As in, the Republican't Party is a snake farm.

Re: her McNulty accusations....

The only one that might have any teeth is the one about the Griffin hiring.

The other ones involved minor sins of omission (he didn't give a detailed account of his awareness that White House offices were involved in the firing decisions, he said he didn't know anything about the Griffin caging allegations -- and while Monica requested info from Griffin on caging and fowarded it to McNulty, the fact that SHE knew nothing about caging strongly suggests that Griffin provided no information to HER inquiries) or questions of interpretation (whether the Parsky Commission "worked very well" and if the DoJ "respected the process.")

Based on the thinness of these three allegations, I have doubts about her "griffin hiring" allegation. But I can't find a transcript....
