I've got to ask. Who's building the new US Embassy in Baghdad?

Are we hiring locals? Is Haliburton building it and hiring locals? Or are we importing US-based people to build it?

The Chinese are building their new embassy right now in DC. Everyone working on the building is imported. They build housing barracks on the site and bought out two Days Inns. Assume this is to thwart the possibility that the US will bug the place.

Are we taking similar precautions with our embassy against the "terra-ists" as well as potential spies in Iraq?

Additional Muck:

Tim Griffin is job hunting. The Arkansas Times reports (by way of the Wall Street Journal Washington Wire) Tim is talking to Thompson’s campaign. This is telling because it could signal which candidate is favored by the BushCo political machine.

“Backers look for Fred Thompson to use a June 2 speech to Virginia Republicans to step closer toward the race. Thompson allies have had discussions with Tim Griffin, the Arkansas U.S. attorney and Rove protégé, about taking a top job with the campaign”

Anyone want to take a bet that the "different explanations" Kit Bond wants to ask Plame about are fabrications that are bandied about on right-wing radio, and not things she actually said?

I've got to assume that we're doing as the Chinese are -- importing everything. I watched the US Embassy being built in Warsaw (45 yrs ago? more?) and there were no Poles employed in the project, for just the reason you state: couldn't trust it not to be bugged.

Of course, Poland in the 60ties was an enemy (communist country) while Iraq is supposed to be our ally but, common sense would suggest that security would be paramount, even with (supposed) allies.

OTOH... Nobody can accuse this sAdmin of excess of common sense, so, who knows...

Well, that'll bum out that sick fuck Cheney, won't it? But who knows, these bastards probably respect the science of psychology about as much as they do the theory of evolution. Heck, for these guys, shoving a light stick up someone's ass beats the hell out of science anyday.
