Florida Rep Starts Legal Defense Fund
Rep. Tom Feeney (R-FL) filed papers with the House of Representatives establishing a legal defense fund earlier this week.
Federal investigators stepped up their probe of Feeney's ties to Jack Abramoff in April. Abramoff brought Feeney along on one of his infamous golf junkets to Scotland, this one in 2003. Feeney was one among three lawmakers on the trip -- the other two were ex-Reps. Bob Ney (R-OH) and Tom DeLay (R-TX).
As Roll Call reported in April, Feeney has made two payments totaling $23,000 to the law firm Patton Boggs for legal counsel to represent him for an ethics committee probe of the trip. The committee ruled in January that the trip was improper and fined Feeney $5,643. It would seem that Feeney needs more help paying to defend himself against possible criminal charges.

What if...
20,000 or so TPMers (are there that many?) each sent a $.02 check to the Feenster defense fund.
I know, I know, irony is lost on Republicans but how much would it cost Feendy to process the checks? Mo money!

Security code "part" as in only part of the story.

You don't have to be a blind conservative not to see it, just an ignorant one to deny it.

I was hoping that Clint Curtis beat him the last time around. He is the one who bradblog brought up the hacking for votes issue on Feeney. What sleazes those Rs are, and it doesn't go away. Well they're at least consistent. Consistently running afowl of the law. I guess 6 years of no oversight brings that on.

It ain't just Florida, though a swampy political slimebog it is.
Texas/Maine gave us the Bush crime family and Tom Delay-my-indictment, California hatched psycho-Nixon and der Governogoper, and Massachusetts incubated Mitt Romney.
Why does the USA hate America?
Mrs Panstreppon wrote on June 22, 2007 2:40 PM:Feeney bought a condo for investment purposes in 1/05, according to his 2005 personal financial records - link below. He originally recorded the purchase price net of the mortgage, between $15k and $50k but he never recorded the mortgage.
In a 2005 amendment, Feeny then restated the value of the condo to between $100k and $250k but again, never listed the mortage.
In 2006, the condo was valued at between $50k and $100k and is listed as Partnership II rental property. How did the condo become the property of a partnership?
I took a look at Brevard County property records and I can't find the property record for 8600 Ridgewood Ave, #2308.
For the record, Feeney's other rental property is listed at the wrong address in his personal financial disclosure report. It should be 12053 Gray Birch Circle, not 12063.

Funny - I moved from Tom Tancredo's, and leaving his district was the only good thing about leaving Colorado. Did not know I was moving into an Abramoff den. Maybe I can finally get a Dem rep next time around if Feeney takes a dive.
It will be interesting to see how the Sentinel reports it. I'm on travel at the moment so have no local color to report.

sisyphusjns wrote on June 22, 2007 4:07 PM:This guy really is an a&&hole. He use to be speaker of the house in Florida. He drew that district for himself, that's the only reason he's there.
Not all a&&holes are crooks, but it sure makes it more fun to watch them go down. He's the kind of small town huckster who never use to rise above county commission, but now thrive in the gop.
