Gonzales: "That's a Good Question"

This one is just for fun. Given the extensive damage that Alberto Gonzales has done to the Justice Department's credibility, Sen. Herb Kohl (D-WI) wanted to know why Gonzales thinks he's the man to fix it?

"That's a very good question, Senator," a smiling Gonzales replied, before continuing on to explain that he'd decided "to stay and fix the problems."

Every once in a while, even Democratic Senators ask good questions. It sure was a softball, given Kohl surely read Gonzales's prepared statement.

He looks like a little boy that just got caught red-handed in a major lie, and the committee is going to pursue it.

TPM, you have got to get the Schumer-Gonzales video up.

Editing problem at end of clip -- for a moment, you see Leahy reprise his "trust you" at the very end of this video segment.

Support our troops:

Iraq war veterans are suing the Department of Veterans Affairs for illegally denying or delaying claims for mental health treatment and disability pay, claiming that there is a backlog of 600,000 disability payments for vets, inadequate treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder and other shortcomings in the VA. The suit names VA secretary Jim Nicholson and Attorney General Alberto Gonzales for failing to reform the system. (USA Today)

Oh those livrul troop devils, stabbing our troops in the back and SUING poor, poor Gonzales who is just trying to fix things.

Another editing problem: cutting off G's response. Now I think he should go to jail, but paring down his response gives a bad impression.

Gonzales wants to "fix the problem?" He IS the problem!

Rodney Lamprey, jr. wrote on July 25, 2007 1:04 PM:

So it seems Gonzales decides whether or not he remains as Attorney General, as he "has decided to stay to fix the problems". What happened to serving at the pleasure of the President?
