Conyers: We Will Press on

From House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers (D-MI):

"It is a sad day when the Attorney General of the United States resigns amid a cloud of suspicion that the system of justice has been manipulated for political purposes. More than accountability, we need answers. Unfortunately, the continued stonewalling of the White House in the U.S. Attorney scandal has deprived the American people of the truth. If the power of the prosecutor has been misused in the name of partisanship, we deserve a full airing of the facts. The responsibility to uncover these facts is still on the Congress, and the Judiciary Committee in particular."

We are most tired of hearing your noise Mr. Conyers. Either do something, or retire and let someone that isn't being blackmailed do the job

All Americans deserve to have Congress find the truth in this matter.

Thank you, Congessman Conyers for making clear that you will keep pushing. I hope that your Rethuglican colleagues will develop a conscience and start helping rather than hindering. If not, Republicans of conscience need to find some primary opposition for them.

Hey oldtree, give it a rest. Conyers is doing something. He's doing quite a lot. He's not all-powerful, but he is one of the few who is using the powers that he does have to do anything he can to break apart this criminal enterprise. You should support him, not tear him down.

Conyers is of a political generation that once held executive branch officials responnsible for their mistakes and breaches of the law. I have no doubt he will continue to insist that AG Gonzales - and others - be held accountable for their maladministration of justice.

AMAZING that either party affiliation would just turn a blind-eye to protecting our civil liberties....CONGRESS has a RESPONSIBLITY to pursue injustice even if it leads to the White House....Gonzo is a national embarrasment to the values we fight for. NOW...countdown..JAN. 20, 2009....HANG IN THERE AMERICA !!

It seems like it's been about 9 months since the attorney firing questions arose, and several months since Gonzalez made clearly false and arguably perjurious statements to the Judiciary Committee. This investigation is not pressing on quickly enough for me. If the guy lied, what's the hold-up? Indict him already and let's go to trial. Find Miers in contempt of Congress and throw her butt in jail until she testifies.

oldtree is a left wing troll who wants to make sure that nobody brings up the positive contributions Gonzalez made as AG.

Which is idiotic since there aren't any. Gonzalez will go down in history as one of the most corrupt US officials in history. While it was the obstruction of justice issue that ultimately cost him his job, Gonzalez was deeply involved in the Bush administration torture policies and the faciltiation of corporate crooks like Abramoff and Enron.

Mr Conyers The focus of your committee should be to free the political prisoners persecuted by the justice department. clearly if alberto was not guilty of persecuting people for political gain he and mr rove would not have resigned. all i have to say is free Don Siegelman and Richard Scrushy. my code is soap let's soap down the justice department and clean the corruption out
