Alabama Dems Demand Sessions' Recusal

Democrats in Alabama want Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) out of any Judiciary Committee investigations or hearings dealing with the case of former Gov. Don Siegelman (D-AL).

The Alabama Democratic Party called for Sessions' recusal today, pointing to a Time story that implicated the senator in an alleged political money laundering scheme that went uninvestigated by the office he used to head. The accusations came from a lobbyist who went on to become the key prosecution witness in the Siegelman case.

Sessions to Dems:

"But . . . But . . . But . . . It is my moral obligation to provide the best possible service for the graft that has been provided to me. My failure to sit on the Committee during this critical venture and provide direction and exercise my voice would dramatically impact the fate of this fine fellow . . . To paraphrase that grand diplomat, our Vice President, go fuck yourselves."

Why just demand that he step aside for proceedings involving Siegelman? Why not kick his sorry ass to the curb, and then see him land in prison where he belongs? Maybe Duke or Jackie A would a$$-rap3 him for kicks.

+5 points to rapid response, but -1000 to effectiveness. Sessions should be indicted and forced to resign because there is sworn testimony that implicates him in a criminal money laundering scheme.

I love this news. Not only am I thrilled that the senate is following through with the Siegelman case, but Jeff Sessions might actually experience some karmic consequences.

Sure, indictment and resignation are the ideal, but this kind of humiliation is a splendid start.

The Democrats in Alabama should make it clear to their colleagues across their aisle that supporting Sessions will be like trying to buoy up an anchor with water wings: The water wings might never see the surface again.

Wouldn't it be amazing to see a turnaround in Alabama, of all places? I think that would hearten even the most cynical liberal.

What are the chances? The Dems from Alabama or anywhere else for that matter, deplore and decry and demand, but when the shit hits the fan, they always say, "Oh. Never mind."

...it would be wonderful if this story was given statewide exposure. unfortunately, the major papers in this state are controlled by a republican and this story has been given little notice. So the good old boy entrenched paternalistic society here is in no danger of being downsized. Our state motto should be graft incorporated, it is a long standing value.

...The Democrats in Alabama...

That should read "The [few] Democrats [left} in Alabama. Top to bottom, the state has been coverted to GOP. The judiciary, for example, is about 95% GOP.

...the major papers in this state are controlled by a republican...

No kidding. And not just controlled by a Republican but run by GOP operatives out of DC and Texas and in cahoots with the DoJ. It's a mess. And, as Scott Horton points out, they don't _act_ like journalists and newspapers, they act like a propganda wing of the GOP so, really, you aren't talking about journalists and newspapers.

And, hey, it's not just Sessions and Pryor. Shelby, Bonner, and Riley all deserve attention. As does the whole mess of fake prosecutions of Dems involving "honest services mail fraud." [Ahem, Muckrakers? "honest services mail fraud." Hello.]

Has anyone else noticed that, in addition to removing the DoJ paperwork--that contradicted their own stories--from their website, the Mobile Register seems to be encouraging Eddie Curran to keep his head down. (Which, for Curran, must take a discipline.) A little light sends the roaches under the couch.

The investigation will lead to fredo and turdblossom faster than greased lightning. Once the initial layer of obstruction is penetrated, the trail into DOJ and the WH is a super highway.
The question is with a completely corrupted Justice Department, can there be a legitimate query?
