Feingold 'Troubled' by Hayden-Helgerson Feud
Sen. Russ Feingold (D-WI) beats Senate intelligence committee chairman John Rockefeller in the race to comment first on CIA Director Michael Hayden's investigation of Inspector General John Helgerson!
"I am troubled by the New York Times story indicating that the CIA's leadership may be interfering with the oversight work of its own inspector general. The story raises alarming new questions about this administration’s willingness to submit to critical oversight. During this administration, we’ve seen an illegal warrantless wiretapping program, demands for dangerous new surveillance powers, and a CIA detention and interrogation program that is legally dubious and morally indefensible. Independent oversight of the intelligence community has never been more important, and inspectors general must be able to conduct their important work without interference or politicization."

If only you and your fellow Democratic colleagues could grasp the idea that this administration will do anything to avoid critical oversight. Perhaps then you would move in such a manner as to hold them accountable. Then again I'm just a F.I.B.

If they shot the IG what would you be then? Troubled and worried?
There is a thing called the law, judges and all that - maybe youv'e seen it on Law and Order...
Try using the law and the constitution, the power of subpoena...
While Republican thugs rip apart America you are troubled?
All it takes to overthrow democracy and the constitution is to to refuse to enforce the laws... and Democrats are doing a bang up job of that following the Republican's lead....
Yeah - don't go beyond troubled... wouldn't want to put anything in context...
Can you imagine how great the threat is from the right wing smear machine that people in congress temper their language to this extent?
God help this nation - because the ones running it sure as hell won't.

It seems there was a report back in 2004 that was prepared for Rep. Henry Waxman that explored the politicization if IG's.

We are well past the point of thinking that incidents like these are troubling... they are lawless moves that hurt this nation everytime they happen.

Thomas Williams wrote on October 13, 2007 2:53 PM:Troubled? the only reason General mushariff hayden is "reviewing" the work of the IGs office is to get the files on reports being made to the IGs office which he needs in order to get "those" who will provide the information that will get him and his cronies.
general mushariff hayden is showing himself to be among the enimies domestic and he wants to escape being held accoutable under the rule of law.
He swore the same oath of all citizens serving their country and he is violating it.

You recall Paul Wellstone at the right time of year. I believe it was about now that he met an untimely death.
Russ is holding his finger in a dike. And deserves huge credit. But what a leaky dike! And how few fingers to plug all the leaks!
Thank you Senator Feingold! From all your fellow compatriots, constituents or not.
