Former U.S. Attorney to Testify about Siegelman Case
Tomorrow morning the House Judiciary Committee will hold a heading on whether politics spurred a series of prosecutions, focusing on the cases of Cyril Wecht and former Gov. Don Siegelman (D-AL).
Unfortunately, Dana Jill Simpson, the Republican lawyer who has given sworn statements that implicate Karl Rove in the decision to prosecute Siegelman is not on the witness list.
Siegelman's legal team has long-maintained that the decision to prosecute the former Democratic governor was an assault from Republicans in the state with connections at the Department of Justice. One of Siegleman's former lawyers and former US attorney for Alabama, Doug Jones, is set to testify tomorrow. Jones already told House investigators that in 2004 lawyers in Montgomery mentioned that when the case against Siegelman stalled, they were told by Justice Department officials in Washington to "take another look at everything." Jones gave the same story to The New York Times last month.
Rep. Artur Davis (D-AL), who sits on the judiciary committee, has pushed for an official look at the role of partisanship in prosecutions of public officials since Siegelman's case picked up speed this summer. In an Op-Ed in today's Montgomery Adviser he echoed his point, citing a study showing that the Bush administration's Justice Department has brought four times as many prosecutions against Democrats than Republicans.

Have fun with that, especially since Nancy Pelosi won't impeach and Harry Reid won't cut off funding for the Iraq war.

If Bush and Cheney are implicated in the illegal activities could we see them dancing at the end of a rope?

Jake D. wrote on October 22, 2007 8:10 PM:LOL -- I thought that Nancy Pelosi took impeachment (much less "the end of a rope") off the table? Look, maybe the reason that the Bush Administration's Justice Department has brought four times as many prosecutions against Democrats than Republicans is that Democrats are four times as corrupt?
BimBeau wrote on October 22, 2007 8:44 PM:Dems are inept and Reps are corrupt. The superficial outcome is the same as long as there is no dominant party throughout government.
With Dems dominant, the ineptitude is out in the open and neutralized during the governing process. With Reps dominant, the corruption ends up in off-shore banks.
And like all responses in these circumstances - I am simplifing (overly) for the benefit of the Republicans out there, since they refuse to think for themselves.

Illegal GOP fundraising ran through Alabama in 1996 with the Triad Scandal. Both Governor Riley and his son were complicit (the Guv, then running for House, got the $, his son laundered it).
And it was junior Riley who bragged about hearing Rove's plans for Siegelman.
This was a Rove operation. And Rove was a major player in the Triad fundraising scandal in 1996. It's all about the use of illegal money. To. This. Day.

Most of you are senior citizens acting selfish and cruel to your fellow men like you are going to live forever.
For it is written by God: "IT IS APPOINTED UNTO MEN ONCE TO DIE, BUT AFTER THIS THE JUDGEMENT. FOR MAN THAT IS BORN OF A WOMAN IS OF FEW DAYS AND FULL OF TROUBLE. YOU COMETH FORTH LIKE A FLOWER, AND IS CUT DOWN; YOU FLEETH AS A SHADOW, AND CONTINUETH NOT."
You need to live every day like it's your last for it maybe!
CAUTION! What you do here on earth determines where and how you will spend eternity.
Your days are numbered. You have an appointment with death that everyone must keep.

They literally print nothing but lies about all Democrats in the state. They will not allow their investigative reporters any access to these cases. If they would have investigated and printed the truth about Don Siegelman like the locally own papers done the Canary's would have been run out of the state by its citizens before now.
It has taken a few months, but most Alabamians now know the truth about their good friend Don Siegelman, about the conspiracy that removed the most popular Democrat in Alabama by Bush's appointees and how his elections were taken from him.
These three newspaper instruct their writers to start every article that they write about Siegelman with this statement, "our newspapers endorsed Riley and we believe Siegelman to be a crook" then they twist every sentence after that to sound negative.
Many of us are dropping our subscriptions and are switching to locally owned newspapers.
