Iraq Security Contractors to Get Sensitivity Training

The trouble with State Department security contractors, it turns out, is that they're just not very sensitive.

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on Tuesday ordered new measures to improve government oversight of private guards who protect U.S. diplomats in Iraq, including extensive cultural awareness training for contractors.

The AP got an advance description of the recommendations made by Ambassador Patrick Kennedy, Rice's adviser on contractor oversight. But TPMmuckraker goes a step beyond. We've got an advance look at the cultural-awareness lesson plan for Blackwater, Triple Canopy and DynCorp.

Lesson One: Don't drunkenly murder bodyguards of Iraqi dignitaries.

Lesson Two: Should Lesson One fail, don't hire those who drunkenly murder bodyguards of Iraqi dignitaries.

Lesson Three: Don't shoot people as they flee in terror from your orgy of destruction.

Lesson Four: Don't force terrified civilians off the road with your reckless convoys.

Lesson Five: Don't fire your weapons at members of the U.S. military.

Lesson Six: Don't broadcast your orgy of destruction on YouTube while set to music meant to show what a bad ass you are.

Herr Prince should be pleased with the publicity. Now we know what to expect when they are deployed to restain Congress after a presumed terrorist incident somewhere and George suspends government and the Navy blows Iran away.

It is time to impeach Cheney and Bush

Don't say it... don't tell me... BLACKWATER got the deal to do their own sensitivity training on a no-bid contract.

Hank Essay wrote on October 23, 2007 8:59 PM:

Actually, Joe, I think Halliburton is the lead on the new contract, with Blackwater as the sub-contractor.

But they did get Vice President Cheney himself to lead one of the sensitivity sessions.

"Black water," "Triple canopy" - Vietnam terms used by those who were "in the bush" (or who claimed to be - as a friend of mine who really was out on the sharp end once said, "if all those who said they were in combat units in Vietnam really were, we'd have won") - terms now used by the morons who never got the memo:

Hey, idiots: WE LOST!!

Watching Prince go to jail like Al Capone for the oh-so-Republican crime of tax dodging is going to be funfunfun. Maybe someone can instruct him in this really cool way to clean a latrine with your tongue...

Nobody attended -- they read the memo too fast and thought it was *ethnics* classes and well, shucks, that didn't apply to us white folks.

Look at what this arrogant little fascist dick did to mock the Congressional hearings. Essentially this piece of dirt is saying - when some people are under oath and testifying they foolishly tell the truth when asked a question, Erik Prince only tells the "truth", because he is rich, well connected, and can get away with it.

While you blather on about BW, I would like to see the hands go up of any of your arm chair leftists whoa ctually know someone who carrys a gun for BW?
Hmmm. Thought so.
I do. Know several. They are nothing like you are led to believe. They are scared to death to be there, their wives are frightened while they are away, their kids don't do well in school, and they are gone for long assignments. They come back quietly for short trips and then are gone again.
It's a little like the TV show, "the Unit." Somewhat, anyway. Believe all the crap you want, but you don't know. Some go to my church, their kids to my school. They look just like you and me.

Sensitivity training? Aren't Democrats always demeaned about offering sensitivity training? And while BW folks may look just like you and me their actions would suggest that they don't act that way. Unless you approve of shooting down innocent civilians. Because although I am not a member of the "pro-life" party, I actually don't like those that kill innocent people. And I don't care what uniform they wear doing it. Wrong doesn't know a country, a philosophy, or a uniform. Wrong, as in killing the innocent, is wrong.

Cultural awareness training...is probably what is needed.

I mean, who knew Iraqis would be so sensitive about having friends and family murdered.

They should probably get someone knowledgeable in the Iraqi culture, someone diplomatic, maybe someone from the State Department to teach thi...

Nevermind.

Mr. Rogers, yes, I have met a couple men who work for companies like Blackwater and I do understand what you are saying. However, we all get to choose what we do for a living and the actions of some of these guys are giving all of them a bad name. I know the money is very good, but money just isn't everything.

I'm in favor of having the salaries and perqs for our armed services raised so that we don't need these extra security firms.

Dear Mr. Rogers,

I guess is sucks to be a mercenary. Ah well. Perhaps the Americxan people should be forced to take a sensitivity class about respecting the feelings of killers for hire.

moondancer wrote on October 24, 2007 10:35 AM:

Mr Rogers-

I cannot think of a more un-American job than being a mercenary. In fact the concept of an American mercenary force is almost an oxymoron. If the people you know that are part of this GOP militia are afraid, the remedy is simple.
Interesting how many videos I found online of mercenaries randomly shooting up traffic, livestock, people for entertainment(posted by the killers). Gee, I wonder why the Iraqis hate them so?

jimijazz wrote on October 24, 2007 12:25 PM:

Sensitivity training? We want them OUT period! End of story. No amount of cajoling from the State Department is going to change that. You can't give sensitivity training to a bunch of pot-bellied thugs who's lifes dream is to carry an AK-47 on the streets of Irag or any other country.

anonymouse wrote on October 24, 2007 12:58 PM:

Sensitivity training, brought to you by "Covey Training" is the standard response to uproars by commoners around the nation. It seems as though Mr. Covey has become the guru of the beauracracy. During the trainings, the beaurocrats learn to "smile" as they chop off your heads.

Bush probably learned this as governor. Beaurocrats get "Sensitivity" training... all others get electrocuted....

jvill wrote on October 24, 2007 2:31 PM:

Mr. Rogers,

You do know the difference between a solider, airman or Marine who is obliged to be in this catastrophuck of a civil war, and the mercenary who takes a solider's job at 10 times the pay, right?

That's right! The mercenary can quit! And your prize is... more soma from the Republicant Party Dispensary.

The irony in all of this is that if a Democratic president had put this country in the exact same position we're in... using ludicrously over-priced mercenaries in place of soldiers that used to do the same job, jamming this nation in the middle of a civil war (possibly soon a regional war - hello Kurdistan!), and severely damaging our military's overall readiness, righteous Republicants like yourself would be wetting themselves with rage and demanding impeachment hearings, if not a pitchfork and torch march on Washington.

Is there any coherence remaining in the philosophies of the Republican Party? Any at all?
