Politico: Rice to Testify on Iraq Corruption

Looks like the impasse between the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee and the State Department over Iraq corruption might be breaking. The Crypt reports that Rice might go before the panel tomorrow:

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is scheduled to appear before the House Oversight and Goverment Reform Committee Thursday to answer questions about corruption within the Iraqi government, the possibility of political reconciliation in that war-ravaged country and the department's controversial security contract with Blackwater USA, according to a release from the committee.

Oversight Chairman Henry A. Waxman (D-Calif.) has been pressing Rice and other agency officials for months to testify about corruption and the department's contract with Blackwater. According to the release, committee members will also be asking about allegations of misconduct in the construction of the U.S. embassy compound in Baghdad.

Contacted for confirmation, a State Department spokeswoman would only say that there might be an announcement later today on the subject of Rice's potential testimony.

Update: Waxman's office has sent out a press release announcing Rice will appear tomorrow morning before the committee.

Please let Waxman issue a supeona to be served with handcuffs from the Congressional Police. Dr Rice needs to be photographed in prep-walk mode . . Complete with a raincoat over her hands in ninety degree weather.

Condi, answer questions before Congress? Check her record. Are you freakin' kidding me?? She'll claim ignorance on all the important questions, like, "What are Blakwater and DynaCorp's rules of engagemnet?" or "Where did $1.2 billion go?" Is she in the dark on purpose? She doesn't know jacksh!t about anything, let alone what the State Dept's hired gun, "kill 'em all, let God sort 'em out," right-wing mercenary nutjobs are doing.

My my, the Secretary of State is going to testify before a Senate panel? That'll solve everything, because everyone called to testify before Congress in the last 6 years has told the truth and nothing but.

Condi Rice is a fundamentally ignorant and dishonest shill; I predict semantic evasions and outright lies will be the order of the day.

Waxman should bring one of those old bs grinders during these hearings. When she and the rest of them open their mouths all they spew is lies or feigned ignorance. I really wish someone would keep track of these transcripts and then set them up to lie on the record before congress. It should be easy enough to do, then throw the criminal gang in jail for perjury.

When these clowns ask for more money from (no, it's not Congress that gives them the money folks... its "We the People") us, our esteem representatives need to remind them that they have plenty of funding already... they just need to retrieve all of the money they decided wasn't needed for the actual goal of democracy building... and use IT.

We have already give enough. If the administration has decided it wasn't worth keeping track of or not worth making sure it wasn't stolen... that's not OUR problem. If they dont't value it enough to investigate, prosecute, inspect the buildings... they really do not value the funding (or the war effort)... despite what they say.

Our representatives need to tell them to use the funding they have already received... THEN "We the People" might give them more.

And if our representatives do NOT pass this directive on to Bush and his cronies, "We the People" need to replace those crooks and elect those who WILL tell them... yeah, like that's really going to happen....

I agree that "We the People" need to replace all representatives like the Democrats who cannot stand up to Bush.

She will say that the memos on corruption were more "historical" in nature.

Rice will say:
"Have there been problems in the past? Yes, but let me remind you of the progress that we have made in the last few months. I have started an investigation into xxxx. The YYYY Department is looking into zzzz. And the numbers show that since we have begun these investigations, the amount of contractor on Iraqi violence has dramatically decreased.

"No one could have expected to use the contractors this long and this extensively, but it is a credit to the President that he has remained versatile and adapted to changing needs on the ground."

on and on, lie after stupid repeated lie

Why anyone would expect the "queen" of the quintessential coterie of corruption personified to provide anything but disinformation, misinformation, willful misrepresentation of facts, distortion, just for starters and then feign victimhood for an unwarranted personal attack for which an apology should be forthcoming has OD on his/her meds. And... at the very nanosecond this phony claim is made and before a truly pointed question can be posed, House Squeaker Pelosi will fly through the window into the Committee Hearing Room on her broom where she will demand that Waxman and Democratic (Yeah, sure!)Committee member pay proper obeisance to Rice. She's no better role model for African-Americans than O.J or Michael Vick. Actually, she is worse. neither of the latter two misanthropes are not complicit in war crimes.

mo2 - you've got the lingo down pat!

What's so sad really - is very predictable they all are.

Maybe they should "waterboard" her. Because you know it's not torture or anything and they might actually get some useful information out of her.

I have no problem with Secretary Rice testifying as long as the Democrats keep the Code Pinko wackos off of her.

Has anyone else noticed that when rice wrinkles up her forehead, she looks like one of those Star Trek aliens?

Every time she does that, it freaks me out!
