Rice Continues Proud Tradition of State Dep't Stonewalling

So much for Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice ending State's recent stonewalling of the House oversight committee. Rice is testifying this morning about corruption in Iraq, a subject that the committee has been digging into for months. She's just not saying much:

Is Rice aware of ex-corruption Judge Rahdi Hamza al-Radhi's statement that Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki issued "secret orders" to stop his investigations? "The questions you're asking get into areas where there are concerns about exposure of sources." She said that while "no one is more concerned" about corruption than the State Department, she isn't "personally following every investigation."

Well, asked Chairman Henry Waxman (D-CA), did Maliki obstruct a corruption investigation of Maliki's cousin, the ex-transportation minister, as Radhi testified? It turns out she "can't comment." While Rice said she would review the case -- even though Waxman personally gave documents on Radhi's charge to one of Rice's subordinates -- "nothing is to be gained by speaking prematurely."

Poor Ms Rice - she is a very bad manager. State must be a complete mess by now.

To her credit : she is still in her job ! Cheney has not arranged to push her out yet. That is amazing.

Dennis wrote on October 25, 2007 11:49 AM:

Rice has blood on her hands just like Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Gonzales and a host of "in house" and "out house" White House supporters.

The Iraq war was a contrived war before 9/11 - as was the spying on Americans begun before 9/11.

The sad thing is that no one in high places will ever be held accountable for any of it.

But if anything would booster the esteem of America throughout the world, it would be that America tried and convicted its own war criminals.

For that matter, they could be tried just for crimes against the government.

You don't have to be a blind conservative not to see it, just an ignorant one to deny it.

Jake D,

I take from your exuberance that you find something laudable about the head of the State Dept. either bungling her job or obstructing investigations in such a way that US troops continue to die and innocent Iraqis continue to be murdered while you play "keyboard commando".

Or maybe this is just fun for you since neither you nor anyone you know is in harm's way.

Btw, if you even think about responding that you do know someone fighting in the war, keep in mind that such a response will be an even more damning indictment of your previous excited utterances.

Jake D is a routine poster over at Think Progress.org. He is always on the other side of sanity (the wrong side) and his posts are just cut and paste jobs of limbaugh, hannity, coulter, malkin, and others words.

Don't count on Jake D to offer anything of substance, and his words will make you weep for America. He is part of the 24%r's longing for a king to make him feel secure and safe.

At TP (Think Progress) we normally just ignore him, as that makes him find another forum to harass. His words are treasonous and worthy of nothing.

Of course not, and with good reason. She's silently one of those oreos.

but she talks a good game, better than her bosses. She is trying to keep hoping for diplomacy for Iran, and for that Cheney isn't happy with her, but at this juncture I doubt she's going to get the boot.

Do you name all those personalities, or do they just appear when they want to? And if the "Go Hillary!" personality is starting to be a major force amoungst the others, please do try and encourage it. As it is, I'll just say "Hi" to all of them. I hope they are all doing well. This is the same woman that was confidently able to state, within hours, that "miles of documents" (then) just found in Iraq regarding intentions to create weapons of mass destruction related programs absolutely justified the invasion and occupation.

Yet here, the miles of documents form the kind of physical obstacle that obliterates her previous x-ray vision and speed reading superpower. Where do we send Sec'y "Algernon" her flowers?

This government is filled, well past bursting, with persons who hotly defend their honest and integrity, and with so little reason. Rice is near the top of the list.

There's no reason to expect honesty from those incapable of it.

My observation of Ris is that she has consistently appeared to be a brittle, sanctimonious, and hypocritical servant of her own hubris. Her personality is abrasive and controling, and from what I've read and heard she's not pleasant to work for.

That she participated in fabricating lies to provide an excuse for an utterly unnecessary invasion of Iraq is a matter of record. As Secretary of State, Rice has done little more than continue to cover Cheney / Bush's actions, to the detriment of the interests of the People of the United States. My opinion, but she's an unindicted war criminal.

Her previous few appearances before any Congressional body have been marked by her demand to control the discussion, and to bristle at the slightest suggestion that her "integrity" would be "impugned" -- as she said during the 9-11 Commission hearings... and, she *never* answers the questions. Why should anyone be surprised?

As a liar, as a person hired to create excuses for the criminality of others as well as her own, Rice is ultimately a pathetic figure -- but, the Fall of Empire is always escorted on stage by players like her.

Jakey purpose is to turn any discussion or expression of Left-opinion into a thread that's really all about him... and when criticized, his claims of having his free speech violated, and how it's so intolerant here in Left blogtopia.

So far, this thread is all about Jake --and not about the issue of a lying, dissembling and obfuscating Secretary of State.

She's truly indefatigable. She never breaks character, no matter how ridiculous it gets.

Although one can't fault Waxman for investigating the macro-mismanagement of the State Department, I have been astonished by the pass given to the State Department - and in particular, Margaret Scobey - for acting as accomplices in the murder of Maliki's bodyguard last Christmas by Blackwater employee, Andrew J. Moonen. We've known since the beginning of this month that Moonen murdered the man in cold blood. We've known since the beginning of this month that he was not charged with any crime. We've known since the beginning of the month that the State Department actively contrived for him to escape, and then covered up even the small black mark in his record, thus allowing him to be hired again by a security company in Kuwait. Even in D.C., even in the post Scooter Libby era, there should be some appetite for investigating this. It counts as a high crime.

It is a symptom of the fact that neither of the political parties is worth a bucket of spit - and they are about as different as two buckets of spit - that nothing has happened. Rarely has America seen such a nasty, toadeating group of nonentities as those who sit in Congress and the Executive branch at the moment. But let's
refresh our memories about what the State department did, some paragraphs from the NYT story about the murder, on Oct. 1:

"A Blackwater USA employee under investigation in the killing last December of an Iraqi bodyguard in an off-duty confrontation was so drunk after fleeing the shooting that another group of guards took away the loaded pistol he was fumbling with, a report to a House committee said Monday.

The guards, employees of Triple Canopy, another private military contractor, returned the weapon to the Blackwater employee, who smelled of alcohol, and escorted him away from their guard post in the fortified Green Zone, the report said. Shortly afterward, the police detained the man, a 26-year-old firearms technician whom the report did not name, at the Blackwater camp inside the Green Zone, but determined he was too intoxicated to be interviewed.

Within 36 hours, the report said, Blackwater fired the man for possessing a firearm while drunk and arranged with the State Department to fly him back to the United States, angering Iraqi officials who said the Christmas Eve shooting was murder.

The acting ambassador at the United States Embassy in Baghdad suggested that Blackwater apologize for the shooting and pay the dead Iraqi man’s family $250,000, lest the Iraqi government bar Blackwater from working there, the report said. Blackwater eventually paid the family $15,000, according to the report, after an embassy diplomatic security official complained that the “crazy sums” proposed by the ambassador could encourage Iraqis to try to “get killed by our guys to financially guarantee their family’s future.”

The report did not identify the acting ambassador, but a State Department spokesman, Karl Duckworth, said it was Margaret Scobey."

Try Moonen for murder. Try Scobey for accessory after the fact.

I watched Ms. Rice, preen and flutter for more than two hours, It was like watching someone tiptoes through a mine field, while the repub, threw her toadstool, after toadstool to help her across all that muck.
Huge misplaced funds, not a prob, she's got a bigger fish to fry. Problems with the Embassy, that Congress had just been assured was coming along fine... Don't you worry your precious little over sight committee's for. Dead friendly Iraqi's shot by our side... oops she doesn't pay attention to dead little Iraqi details like that. Problem with sneakin murderers out of dodge before our soverign client state even noticed? Hell we commmit bigger war crimes than tha before breakfast. NO OUR MISSING MONEY.. won't wind up arming the militia's (which side any side?) But there's just so much she has to avoid talking about... while the repubicans once again remind us, there have been no casualties while the mercenaries have been on the job, no casualties except american honor, oh, and a few, friendly iraqis... But thats OK, when our embassy staff suggested a couple hundred grand in hush money... the kids over at black water, just added some carrying charges and instead of the 250 grand they billed the embassy for they just raked $235,000 off the top, carrying charges and passed the rest to the grieving iraqi families. But her ability to avoid the puddles of manure and blood left all over iraq certainly establishes her credentials as a BUSH-LEAGUE Diplomat.

Please can I hear it again, there have been no casualties while POISONOUS GREY WATER has been guarding American Public Servants... (subtext) WATCH IT!
