Erik Prince Invited Krongard's Brother to Join Blackwater Advisory Board

Krongard might not know if his brother is a member of Blackwater's advisory board. But Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) read from a July, 2007 letter from Erik Prince, the company's CEO, inviting A.B. "Buzzy" Krongard to join the board as "a stellar opportunity to support security, peace and freedom." Howard Krongard said he still didn't know if his brother has in fact joined the board, but that if A.B. Krongard has, Howard Krongard would recuse himself from any investigations into Blackwater.

We'll show you the letter as soon as we have it.

Rep. Cummings also said that there's a Blackwater advisory board meeting in a Virginia hotel right now. Rep. Diane Watson (D-CA) followed up, saying that A.B. Krongard has, in fact, checked into that hotel, which is in Williamsburg, Virginia.

Howard Krongard replied that he didn't know if, perhaps, his brother traveled to Williamsburg to decline membership on the board. Here's video:

Update: Here's the letter. (pdf)

Late Update: Rep. Elijah Cummings represents Maryland, not Georgia. I regret the error.

Maybe "Buzzy" and "Cookie" aren't that close.

Since when do you have to travel to turn down a job? Doesn't a phone call or e-mail usually suffice?

The letter is not even signed. Moreover, unless I am mistaken, Blackwater Worldwide didn't even exist until about a month ago. Why would there be an advisory board created for the company in July if it did not yet exist?

It is unbelievable to me how many people are willing to convict without even knowing the facts.

If you're called "Cookie" and your brother's called "Buzzy", you should recuse yourself from any investigation involving grown-ups. Any grown-ups.

In reply to M

Do you not think an advisory board might be set up before a company is formed.
This administration was certainly "advised" before invading Iraq
by neocon advisers.
This administration was surely "advised"
before condoning military dictatorship in
Pakistan.
So why would you give thier underlings the "benifit" of the doubt.
He is hardly being convicted - not simply republican black and white - but strong suspicions on "Cookies" integrity is surely warrented.
But you are correct in saying that one should not be convicted before it is proved they are guilty. (see guantanamo)

Well dude, when you show me video proof that BW Worldwide sprang from Prince's a$$ full-formed and incorporated, I will believe that no advisory board was needed until a month ago.

Two things, if this is true Cookie sure knows a lot about his brother's bio for someone who isn't close. And, if they aren't then Cookie shouldn't go about making such unequivocal statements about someone he doesn't know that well.
