Rodriguez's Lawyer: Won't Cooperate if Probes are a "Witch Hunt"

Last week, Jose Rodriguez, the CIA's ex-operations director who ordered the interrogation tapes destroyed in late 2005, lawyered up in a big way, landing D.C. legal superstar Bob Bennett. Now Bennett's out there earning his salt, saying that Rodriguez will invoke the Fifth if it seems like he's been picked as the fall guy:

Bennett told NEWSWEEK that his client had been "a dedicated and loyal public servant for 31 years" and "has done nothing wrong." But he warned that Rodriguez may refuse to cooperate with investigators if he concludes that the probes are a "witch hunt." "I don't want him to become a scapegoat."

What's Bennett angling for? Well, the line's in the water.

Didn't they hunt for witches by waterboarding them?

him.

God help this country when a true patriot can't protect this country.

For the sake of our freedom we better hope a repuplican gets into office or the head choppers will win. And true Americans will lose.

God bless patriotic Americans

Mike, how come you're not over there protecting us?

He'd be a hero if he does what he claims, to protect his sub-ordinates for following orders. How does he do that? Roll over on his superiors and present evidence and testify before Congress and the Courts.

I certainly understand his contention, if he is indeed being honest, that he was protecting his officers should they get screwed like Ms England. If that is his motivation, then he should demonstrate it by rolling over on his superiors. Only then, would he continue to serve his country.

Mike, indeed he is a hero. All career CIA officers are, like Valerie Wilson.

It's Rodriguez' political masters who are the criminals.

For the sake of our freedoms we better hope a democrat gets into office or the black copters will win. And true Americans will lose.

p.s. - what's a repuplican?

Mike, are patriotic Americans those responsible for the destruction of civil liberties at the expense of national security? How about jacked up Blackwater security teams firing on unarmed civilians? Do true patriots lie about the reasons to go to war? Do patriots look the other way while the Constitution is trampled beneath hobnailed boots? Do they lie about their private proclivities and homosexual desires? You state that repuplicans need to put a patriot into office. Do you think the rest of us have amnesia? We spent 7 years watching the rape of our country by ideologues who espoused "patriotism" and vilified any who disagreed with them as godless and unpatriotic. Go back through your archives and read your history. Repugs are not patriotic, simply media savvy. Remember, if you say an untruth often enough, it becomes fact. Your god, Rove, taught you that, come on...

A scapegoat for whom?

Is Bennett going to try to turn this around and say that Harman, Pelosi and Rockefeller need a fall guy?

Sounds like we need a special prosecutor to take that hypothesis away from Bennett.

What's the deal with these guys? The only amendment in the Bill of Rights that they care about is the 5th.

Oh, give me a break! reyes is going to scapegoat one of his bestest best friends? Not a chance. This is going to go the same way every other pretense of oversight has gone. Under the rug.

I guess following the law is now optional -taken from the Bush admin lead.

Steve in Seattle wrote on December 17, 2007 4:20 PM:

Kathy, I'm sure you are right.

Reyes would no more scapegoat Rodriguez than Karl Rove would Scooter Libby.

Republican - (prep school) - loyalty you know, never peach on a fellow unless you really need to, and even then only if you can get a deal to reduce your own punishment.

If WE clearl conspired to violate any Court's Orders seeking evidence, and destroyed such evidence -- we'd all be in jail.

And, that is exactly where the entire bush-cabal belongs - in prison, for life.

When Iraq's true patriots reacted to our invasion & occupation & destruction of their country by capturing and killing and maiming Americans, they were considered "terrorists" and "insurgents".
When our true patriots practice the same tactics against those we only suspect of wanting to harm us, they're "heroes". Without double standards, where would the bush supporters be?

Call him, subpeona him, and if he doesn't talk, clap them in irons and hold them til this session ends. Seriously, when is this Congress going to get even a hint of a spine? These guys make the last Republican Congress look good...at least those guys actually took some licks. Oh well, maybe it is the Dems time to take some licks too. Either that or how about trying to get the Republic out of the abysmal place it finds itself in thanks to King George and his jesters, the Democratic leadershippers.

This dude has unquestioanably committed a felony when he destroyed evidnce. He is guilty of obstruction of justice and conspiracy. I bet facing the jail time he would be a lot more cooperative with any future Congressional investigators. Maybe we can utilize the administration's water boarding technique they claim is not torture to extract the truth from him. Thirty seconds and he would be spilling his guts about the administration's violations of the law. Although I object to the use of torture under most circumstances I would make exceptions where those who have imposed it on others are concerned

Pompano Pete wrote on December 18, 2007 1:38 PM:

I can just imagine every one of these Bushite criminals praying that the next President will not adopt any of the interrogation methods instituted by their leader and his cabal.

This arrogant behavior could be stopped quickly if one or more of the Democratic presidential candidates would publicly state that he/she is ready to use all the methods used by the Bush administration to ferret out traitors and criminals. It would be even better if they mentioned that a few innocents might be "aggressively interrogated", but that's the price we must pay to protect our freedoms. Then step back and watch the stampede to cop a plea.
