Bush: Bhutto Assassination 'Cowardly'
President Bush demanded Thursday that those responsible for the killing of former Prime Minister Benazir be brought to justice."The United States strongly condemns this cowardly act by murderous extremists who are trying to undermine Pakistan's democracy," he said. "Those who committed this crime must be brought to justice."
The president was speaking to reporters at a hangar adjacent to his Crawford ranch in central Texas.
Bush expressed his deepest condolences to Bhutto's family and to the families of others slain in the attack and to all the people of Pakistan.
"We stand with the people of Pakistan in their struggle against the forces of terror and extremism. We urge them to honor Benazir Bhutto's memory by continuing with the democratic process for which she so bravely gave her life," he said.
Bush looked tense in delivering a statement that lasted about a minute and he took no questions.
President Bush is making a televised statement as I type, and we'll have that for you as well.
Update: Here's that statement.

His scriptwriters need to diversify his vocabulary, it's like I read the same speech from him over and over again. I know he's not the sharpest needle in the haystack but does he really not have the ability to read different words on a sheet of paper?
Also, obligatory nod to the Plame Affair when he said this too.

Strong words coming from someone who has been denying justice ever since his supreme appointment.

All I can say is how convenient for Musharraf and his supporters. I mean she was attacked the first day she arrived in the country (in recent terms) and so this was the second assassination attempt.

chabuka wrote on December 27, 2007 12:45 PM:Bush would certainly recognize a "cowardly act" when he saw one...wouldn't he...just like his plan for "getting out" of Viet Nam....!
Joe Buck wrote on December 27, 2007 1:10 PM:This reminds me of what Bill Maher got fired for: for attacking this peculiar use of "cowardly" by American politicians and media. People who give up their lives for a cause can be crazy, monstrous, evil, any number of things. But "cowardly"? It seems that Mr. Bush should consult a dictionary.
(Maher said that the 9/11 attackers were not cowards as so many said; ABC responded by firing him).

Bush should have concluded with the truth - "Thanks for jacking our oil profits. Also, we can now expand our surveillance society in the name of terrorism thanks to you, Ms. Bhutto. We can now raise fear levels to unprecedented highs."
What an unfeeling numbnut. Is it just me or does he appear to be hiding a smile during the speech? I usually vote for the conservative side, but after this neocon, I am reconsidering for the next election.

From his perspective, it is more moral to use the world's most powerful military, kill and maim hundreds of thousands, spend a trillion dollars and more to take out your political enemy Saddam?

True American liberals, yeah you supported going to war but when things don't go as planned just like all wars. Point your finger and say it is his or there fault. Did I say democrats or liberals? Anyways, all the same---cowards---yep I said it. You got to fight, for your right, to party!
