  • Deanie:

One of the best posts I've read on TPM. We're a Blue Star family, and our soldier has experienced Bush's disasters in Iraq and Afghanistan first hand. He's an enthusiastic supporter of Barack Obama, and is dead-set against McCain being president, for all of the reasons you've articulated. I respect McCain for his service. Right or wrong, he put his ass on the line in the service of his country, and he paid a heavy price for it. But my respect ends there. Whatever McCain might have been, he's become cynical, craven, and no friend of service members and their families. God bless and protect you and yours.

  • Maybe put him through basic a few times, but otherwise, I don't think the Army needs assholes like him. Also, he needs to be kicked out of ROTC, pronto.

  • Mr. Bill:

Judging from your previous posts, I doubt that you know that Blue Star families are families who have a family member serving in the U.S. armed forces during a time of war or hostilities who are allowed to display a banner with a a blue star (or stars) signifying that fact for the duration of such hostilities. We are a Blue Star family, and our soldier, who is a decorated combat veteran, has seen first hand the disasters created in Iraq and Afghanistan by the stupidity and bungling incompetence of George Bush and his enablers, like John "we'll muddle through" McCain. Our soldier is an enthusiastic supporter of Barack Obama--and is wife--and is extremely demoralized by the thought of McCain being president. To this point, we've been an unofficial Blue Star Family for Obama, but with today's news, we'll be kicking it up a notch.

Your remarkably ignorant statements are not welcome here. Get smarter, or just go away. Thanks.

    Sincerely,

    ADad

  • Obama: ‘If They Bring a Knife to the Fight, We Bring a Gun’ --June 14, 2008

"..Obama made the comment in the context of warning donors that the general election campaign against McCain could get ugly. “They’re going to try to scare people. They’re going to try to say that ‘that Obama is a scary guy,’” he said."

McCain's brought the knife. Now I'd like to see the gun. Obama doesn't need to fight this out in the gutter, but if McCain is spending a lot on ad buys in key states, Obama DOES need to go on the offensive.

Posted at July 31, 2008 10:24 AM in response to McCain Camp's Comparison Of Obama To Britney: Defining Him As Puffed-Up Dandy

  • Absolutely. He needs to keep his campaign out of the gutter, and keep pointing it out when McCain takes his campaign there. I thought Obama's off the cuff response was perfect, particularly "...he doesn't seem to have anything to say very positive about himself..." Ouch!

It doesn't mean that he shouldn't respond quickly and--when necessary--forcefully to McCain's bullying (which is exactly what it is) but he has to keep it sufficiently respectful or else he runs the risk of the "Obama was mean to a war hero" meme.
