The Dem primaries have seen record turnouts in every state. Who are these "new voters"? Why are they suddenly coming to the polls?
Here's my guess... They're political cynics. They've never bothered to vote because they knew it wouldn't make a difference. All politicians are crooks who will say anything to get elected only to do corporate America's bidding. They're all the same.
So what do these cynics see differently this time around?
I think Senator Obama has already changed the political landscape. He has motivated the cynics and will continue to do so. Their numbers are far greater than the vocal, single-issue fanatics that the GOP smear machine manipulates so well. Those idiots will never vote for a Democrat regardless of race, gender, experience or qualifications... never.
Yeah, the GOP smear machine will throw everything they can at Obama. And they'll never see it coming when their cadidate loses by a landslide this fall. They don't understand that THIS TIME, things are different. THIS TIME their tactics won't work.
NOT THIS TIME.

I'm a middle-aged white guy living in PA and I don't know anyone of any age/race/gender who prefers Clinton over Obama. And everyone at the bar last night said the same thing (except a couple of rednecks who support torture)... If the Dems fail to nominate the candidate that wins the popular vote in the primary they will either not vote or will vote for McCain. I hear this refrain time and time again. Sure, the DNC rules may allow for it, but it will guarantee a win for McCain.
I watched a similar situation in Maryland when the state Dem machine nominated a very unpopular Kathleen Kennedy Townsend to run for governor against Republican, Robert Erlich. She lost in a landslide and Maryland had its first Republican governor in decades.
Even considering how bad Republican control has screwed things up for the past 6 years, if the DNC machine fails to recognize the will of the people we will be in for 4 more years of it.Posted at February 14, 2008 1:55 PM in response to Poll: Hillary Holds Big Leads In Ohio And Pennsylvania

The WH will ignore Conyers and he'll be forced to draft another strongly worded letter.

Willyam, you are not making sense. There is nothing more important at this point in our history than defending the constituion. These spineless Dems continue to allow the administration and the Republicans to frame the debate - this is NOT about protecting us from terrorisim. It is NOT about winning the Dem v. Repbulican battles. This is about upholding the rule of law. This about protecting our right to privacy. There comes a time when a man must stand and fight for what he knows to be right, regardless of his chances of "winning". To not fight guarantees that you will lose. Let Bush veto the damn bill. Grow some balls.

If authorizing and ordering the torture of human beings is not an impeachable offense in the eyes of this Congress, then exactly what is?
There is no business before them at this moment in our history that could possibly be more important than protecting our constitution from this administration.
The AG now claims that the DOJ is the final arbiter of what is and is not legal. What can "we the people" do should our elected representatives continue to shirk their responsibility to defend the constitution?
