  • I live in NC, and I believe this GOP strategy will work against Obama & other dems, like Richard Moore. You won't understand, unless you've lived here, how obsessively important religion is to most North Carolinians, and how offended they get if someone says "god damn". It isn't even about the incendiary nature of the Rev. Wright's words. North Carolinians are used to hearing reverends say stupid shit. Some examples:

McCain supporter, Rev. Hagee to NPR's Terry Gross, "All Muslims are programmed to kill and we can thus never negotiate with any of them."

Rev. Jerry Falwell on 9/11, "I…believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way, all of them who have tried to secularize America. I point the finger in their face and say 'you helped this happen.’"

Rev. Pat Robertson on Disney's Gay Days, "I don't think I'd be waving those flags in God's face if I were you. ... [A] condition like this will bring about the destruction of your nation. It'll bring about terrorist bombs, it'll bring earthquakes, tornadoes and possibly a meteor."

And most North Carolinians support these reverends and others of their ilk, because the great unwashed of NC hates homosexuals, feminists, abortions, pagans (like me), and Muslims (or basically any non-Christian). The one thing North Carolinians do love (besides pork) is praising the good Lord. So anyone who dares say “god damn” is damned. And Senator Obama doubly so, not only because of what his reverend said, but also because half the morons here think he’s a Muslim anyway. BTW, I hope I am way off base and Mrs. Clinton gets run out of town on a rail on May 6.

  • What is it with Republicans and the private sex lives of others? Today the Haters are out to get the homosexuals. Tomorrow it could be the BDSM crowd, or people with foot fetishes, or the men who love sheep (and the women who won't wear wool). Basically, if a Republican in power decides what turns YOU on is aberrant, you could lose everything. As for Goodling, she deserves a sound, protracted thrashing from a big lesbian dominatrix.

  • How about this for an innovative approach:
Get the hell out of Iraq.

    Or how about this:
Suspend all foreign aid (including war dollars) until all domestic aid needs are met.

  • I'd like to see an Obama-Oprah ticket. Yes, THE Oprah. I know she doesn't have any political experience, but neither did Arnold. Oprah is smart, charismatic, compassionate, and has very strong name recognition. Her personal wealth also doesn't hurt, as she would start out the game with one helluva campaign war chest. She would also be a good foil to Condee Rice should the Republicans try to get crafty. Also (and no offense to those of you who love Hillary), but Oprah is a much more likable character. I don't know about you, but I scratched Hillary off my list when she co-sponsored that damn anti-flag burning bill earlier this year. What pandering! So who is with me? Obama-Oprah for 2008. IT COULD WORK!

  • The 2000 election was stolen, and we did nothing. In fact, we did so much "nothing" that the goose-steppers and ignoramuses in this country managed to RE-elected Bush in '04. I'd love to hear some real ideas about what we can do to push back, as you say, because if the Democrats don't nail it down this time, we ought to riot....er, I mean, we ought to exercise our right to peaceably assemble and petition the government for a redress of grievances. Yeah, that's it.

  • I agree with Rosenberg: Don't celebrate yet. Being a faithful Democrat in recent years is a lot like living in Raleigh, NC in the the winter-time (I do, so I know what I'm talking about in this example).

If there is even a remote possibility of snow, the local meteorologists tell us it is going to snow. People get excited; stores sell out of bread and milk; kids stay up late & don't do their homework, because they think school will be canceled the next day; pagans make libations to Uller. Then the citizenry all go to sleep and dream of winter wonderlands, snow angels, and excuses to get out of shoveling the driveway. But the next morning when we wake up & look outside, there's no snow. Sometimes, there isn't even any precipitation at all.

In terms of this election, I'm hoping for a BLUE blizzard, but I'm definitely not going to bed without doing my homework...
