  • Putting in lots of urls can trip it off...

I had this happen to me 2 or 3 times. I wasn't intending to spam but merely to reference the source of the assertions I was making. But doing so didn't keep me from commenting on other posts w/o the multiple url's. Who knows?

It's almost unbelievable that this has been going on. But then you remember that Junior Bush is the president and then you realize that it's just another day. Sad.

  • Think of the Cap Weinberger pardon. I don't remember anyone...Weinberger himself, Reagan or anyone in the admin...admitting guilt to anything and they sailed off into the sunset. I think you're dreaming.

  • True. There's a big difference between gross income and taxable income.

  • I believe Profiles in Courage was ghost written.

... and one that is as honest and carefully considered as his required a lot of deep contemplation into his own soul...

Yet even Obama has acknowledged the limits of memoir. In a new introduction to the reissued edition of "Dreams," he noted that the dangers of writing an autobiography included "the temptation to color events in ways favorable to the writer ... [and] selective lapses of memory." He added: "I can't say that I've avoided all, or any, of these hazards successfully."

I haven't read his books and don't care to because all of these politicians' books are just different versions of "A Charge to Keep". I'm more interested in what a candidate does when he can no longer slide by on 'hope for change' and has to take actual positions on issues.

  • Instead of funneling FB money to white envangelical churches with a republican bent (as Bush has done), Obama will funnel the FB $ to black churches that begin or have social services programs?

That's...uh, change you can believe in. I guess. It sounds more like an extension of the spoils system, just with a different team making the awards.

  • What really matters to you: telecom immunity, or increased health, happiness and prosperity for everyone.

All of the above. They aren't mutually exclusive. This post sounds like merely one more apologia for Obama's fold on FISA.

  • Not to be unkind but this post seems to be unbelievably naive in that it assumes the republicans are interested in 'unity', whatever that may mean. The republicans I know will use this 'unity' for their own benefit and will still filibuster every goddam bill they don't want passed while beating Obama over the head with all of this empty talk every time he disagrees with them.

It almost seems that you and Allsburg don't really know what republicans are and what drives them. Unity? Not a chance.

  • Les...it's more than a little disconcerting to see this happen. Perhaps the Obama campaign would have been better served by saying that they certainly honor McCain's service but fail to understand what was incorrect in Clark's statement and suggest that McCain continue the dialogue with Gen. Clark to iron out any problems they might have had with what he said. He didn't have to repudiate what Clark said.

It kind of reminds me of when Bill Clinton noted that JJ had won SC twice...certainly a ture statement relative to the result in SC. Live by manufactured outrage, die by manufactured outrage...
