  • Proof that McCain's "Cross in the Dirt" story is a lie.

I hadn't watched the Saddleback non-debate, so I'm Johnny-Come-Lately to the whole "Cross in the Dirt" controversy.  At first, like Josh Marshall, I felt that the story wasn't really worth pursuing.  Until I read what McCain said at Saddleback....In the...more »

  • Edwards is bat crap crazy.

Well, it official... Psychology Today says John Edwards is nutty.  I never liked John Edwards as a Presidential or Vice Presidential candidate (and I liked Bonesman Kerry even less) - I always got the feeling that Edwards was just too...more »

  • Why Obama hit a raw nerve with Jackson

As others have mentioned, Obama's success at breaking free of the old skool notions of race politics threatens Jackson Sr.'s career.  But, Barack's call for black fathers to man-up probably cut a little too close to the bone. From: http://archives.cnn.com/2001/US/08/16/jackson.mistress/ LOS...more »

  • Come to Obama

Yesterday, with an open but ever sarcastically libertarian mind, I went to experience Obama-mania and listen to Barak Obama give an economic speech.  The event was billed as a 'town hall' here at the Austin Convention Center.  Texas, being a...more »

  • Thanks, I suspect that the story is ripped from "Gulag" - the stick visual really lends itself to that impression. But, pursuing it isn't really worth Barack's brain damage. That said, it will make a good email/newsgroup attack meme.

  • UPDATE:

OK, nevermind. Apparently this was the same guard. I'm back to agreeing that this story is not a real issue.

"...on one occasion, a guard surreptitiously loosened McCain's painful rope bindings for a night; when, months later, the guard later saw McCain on Christmas Day, he stood next to McCain and silently drew a cross in the dirt with his foot."

  • With respect, I think you're being overly idealistic - and perhaps a bit new to the web. The majors still do a large percentage of the hard reporting and propaganda dissemination. They are, however, no longer solely in control of the course such reporting takes -- with some exceptions, blog "reporting" still largely consists of amplifying news or propaganda that is written by a major publication.

Kissinger, under Nixon, once referred to the MSM as the "media apparatus" - in context, it was a thing which could be controlled. I have a theory that the Bush 43 administration, laden with Kissinger's proteges and disciples, came to power without appreciating the power or advancement of this shift in the Reality-Based Community. Don't count on future administrations being so naive. Obama's propaganda will be much more advanced and subtle, I'm sure.

Voting for the FISA bill was a matter of compromising foundational Constitutional principles that she's unlike to comprehend unless somebody teachers her something about our history.

Clearly, a word such as 'compromise' has multiple meanings.

  • This sounds like partisan cognitive dissonance to me. I'm willing to bet this commentor also voted for the Bushes' secret society brother, Kerry, in the 2004 scam. It's willful ignorance of such facts and an active suppression of intuition that both parties' elites count on to manufacture consent.

The "crazy" is in Edwards' extreme narcissism, not his infidelity.

A threat to the insurance and medical establishments? Please. There's a fine line between true populism and blatant demagoguery. Edwards' narcissism and recklessness, as demonstrated by his run for Presidency KNOWING the issue would likely become tabloid headlines, are good indicators of which side of that line he inhabits. So too are his votes for the PATRIOT Act and the Iraq War.

  • The WH doesn't care about John Edwards - he's a proven electoral failure in his own right.

The better explanation is that The Enquirer had something to prove - they reported on Edward's affair last year and nobody believed them. They've probably trailed the woman looking for the evidence they needed to justify themselves. They suceeded.

The National Enquirer - America's Most Accurate Political Muckraker. What a sad state of affairs - pun intended.
