Is there any reason why General Clark should not be on Senator Obama's short list for vice president? He's obviously intelligent and articulate. You do not earned four stars, without proven executive ability. He remained quite poised in face of Bob Schleifer's incredulity of his inability to genuflect in front of St. John McCain's ability to walk away from five airplane crashes. It appears that he would lend gravitas to the perceived callowness of the Democratic slate.
That being said, I have to admit that I know very little else about the man. Am I missing something here? What was his class rank at West Point (I only assume he went there because he carried four stars on his shoulder)?

Is it just me; or do the tenor of the Obama camp's responses seem to have become more wimpy since acquiring some of Hillary's personnel? General Clark said absolutely nothing wrong. The American people respond well to a man who stands up for the truth, and those who speak it on his behalf. I am also not in favor of Senator Obama caving on the FISA bill. I sure hope he's not taking advice from people who just lost the election to him. The Republicans are just waiting to define him as an expedient politician.

Hillary Clinton claims nearly 18 million supporters. Five dollars a piece from the people who haven't already maxed out should nicely cover her debt. Alternatively, she should list her debts, much like a bridal registry, and people could choose to allocate money to specific debtors. This would help out all of those mom-and-pop caterers and municipal school auditoriums that got stiffed by a Democratic organization that we will need behind us in the fall.

Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I feel that many of the posters on Democratic and liberal websites that proclaim that if their candidate does not acquire the nomination they will either stay home or vote for a Republican are really Republican apparatchiks. Demonization, anger and fear have long been the support pillars of Republican campaigns. It is certainly not beneath Karl Rove and company to employ agent provocateurs. And it is certainly not beyond the pale to envision deep cover operatives establishing credentials with quasi-progressive posts in order to drive a wedge between otherwise like thinking progressives and Democrats. I can think of no other reason for people to act against their own self-interest. It is counterintuitive to choose someone from the opposite end of the political spectrum instead of the person with views and policies most like your own simply out of spite. You cannot "take your ball and go home." Your country and indeed the whole world is depending upon you to make a rational decision.

There are lots of things I would like the mainstream media to investigate. A thirty three-year-old case of advocacy is not among them. I want the media to be a source of unbiased facts. I do not want them demeaning an attorney for doing her job, however unsavory that may appear to us, in retrospect. I don't know the particulars of this case, and frankly I'm not interested in them at the moment. A defendant is not a rapist until he's convicted. Adolescent girls do lie. This is all beside the point. I believe that Barack Obama is the best person of this current trio to lead our damaged nation back to its leadership position in the world. Our selection process should not require us to damage other worthy contenders in the completion of the task. I want Hillary Clinton to be the Senate majority leader for the next 15 years. She cannot be as effective if we excoriate her during the election. Also, if we get stuck with her for a candidate I want to make it easier for me to campaign for her. Personal preferences aside, our nation cannot survive to more young corporate shills on the Supreme Court.
