Tonight, in a NBC interview with McCain, the talking points seem to be that she has more 'executive' experience than Obama and Biden combined, and he mentioned her activity in the PTA!
Wow!
And what is the big deal about balancing a State Budget? For most states, that is a Constitutional requirement. And since Alaska gets a cut of the oil revenue, that also becomes much easier.
Oh, McCain indicated she is the governor of a State that provides much oil for the Country. Maybe true, but what did she have to do with that?
About the only thing he did not trot out is that she is the Commander of the Alaska National Guard.

When John McCain was shopping for a new wife, he selected someone much younger than he was. When he went for a VP candidate, he selected someone much younger than he was. I think there is a pattern here.

I am wondering. Has John McCain ever paid for health insurance? He was a military son, so probably the government covered him. In the military, the government covered him. In the POW camp, the North Vietnamese government covered him. When he was an elected official, the government covered him. (And for the neo-con objectors, perhaps the North Vietnamese medical coverage was not all that different from some people's HMO's.)
I guess if you have never had to write a check for health coverage, you really have no idea of what it really costs.
And all the government sponsored health care is picked up the taxpayers.

What he said is correct, as that is exactly what the government did to me when I was drafted, trained in combat infantry, and sent to Vietnam.
But the greatest tragedy of a draft as it was then were the many loopholes that allowed so many with connections to avoid service, or other means like Dick (5 deferments) Cheney.
And a true draft, that exposed all able bodied persons to serving, might cause people to ask just what it was that was being asked of them.
Just think, a draft with no college deferments, and the sports ranks would be depleted of able bodied and physically fit persons. The politicians would be unwilling to even consider a war.
On the other hand, continue the exemption of gays serving, and how would the religious right wing handle hundreds of thousands of persons suddenly declaring they were gay?

WASHINGTON - With just days before the vice-presidential announcements, the political conventions and the final sprint to Election Day, Republican Sen. John McCain has cut Democrat Sen. Barack Obama’s national lead in half, according to the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll.
Overall, Obama holds a three-point lead over McCain, 45-42 percent, which is within the survey’s margin of error.

Not if he gives lengthy academic answers while McCain gives soundbites.

Good post. I agree. Americans will not elect a wimp! Pleading for decent conduct from McCain is what weak children do against a bully. The messages continuous on television is that Obama is a celebrity, will raise taxes for families, and is not ready for leadership. And from Obama? Not much that sticks in my mind. Something about the same ole, same ole.
As far as the VFW speech, what the heck was he thinking?
Clinton lost because she had no plan B. Obama's people though it was because they beat her. McCain was watching.
Almost every Democrat knows they can lose the race in August. Obama went on vacation. Well, at least he didn't go windsurfing.
McCain has the momentum and if Obama does not wake up, it will become a landslide.
Just as Obama seems to give long winded responses, perhaps his people read how it was to be the Democrats year, and forgot they had to fight for it.

McCain floods the airwaves with attack ads on Obama, claiming he is only a celebrity that is not ready and a tax raiser. Obama pleads for John McCain to play nice.
McCain attacks Obama, almost saying Obama is guilty of treason, and Obama asks John McCain to do nicer. Obama gives a speech before the VFW, devoid of passion.
Is there a more stupid strategy by Obama? And what about the DNC? Where are they, or are they only concerned about getting money from corporate lobbyists and doing their bidding anyway, showing here is no difference between R and D?
McCain comes across as forceful. Obama comes across as an out of touch wimp, giving long winded nuance filled comments.
Have the Democrats learned anything this past 8 years? Why is the only Democrat fighting back being John Kerry?

Let's see. Your opponent essentially charges you with treason, and you give an academic response about money. With a near $10 Trillion debt, a $500 Billion deficit, the money spent in Iraq is trivial in most people's minds, if it is even there.
Defend your honor first, point out the stress on the military, the desire of Iraq to have the US leave, and then how the money could be better spent.
Hillary would fight back strongly. Time for Obama to do the same.
McCain is doing a great job of defining Obama in terrible terms, thanks to his Rovian tactics. And Obama is doing a great job of sitting back and doing little. Seems like John Kerry has more fight in him than Obama has.

If nuclear energy is the way to the future, then good old American capitalism should be leading the way. Therefore, there would be no need for massive tax subsidies, etc. But American capitalism is not, so that says something.
President Bush and his industry allies have been busy making sure that government doesn't work, so even contaminated food which sickens hundreds cannot be easily traced. And to this regulatory legacy we are going to commit more nuclear power?
McCain made his speech at the Enrico Fermi Nuclear Power plant outside Detroit which had a near meltdown of its reactor in the 1960's. It is shut down, and only the successor nuclear power unit is operating.
