  • Obama drew 12,000 on a weekday. People blew off school and work for the chance to see him. Clinton was in Portland on a Saturday and got a smaller crowd. To be fair, there was an overflow crowd outside the school where she spoke, but not nearly as many as at the Obama appearance.

  • Good news. Progress, finally.

  • I didn't think you were linking Conaway to the fraud. But you're right, he could be the fixer/firewall to keep this from taking down too many people.

Reynolds and Walden's behavior does look very odd. If the FBI hasn't interviewed them yet, they will very soon. Oh to be a fly on the wall during those conversations...

  • Cole and Conaway came in after the 2006 elections (can't find the date right now) and it was Conaway's questions that opened the can of worms.

My question is, how did Greg Walden get the chairmanship of the audit committee in the first place? He has no financial background. He has a BS in journalism and owns a few small radio stations.

Conaway is a CPA, so his appointment makes sense. Is Walden that easy to fool? Or was he part of the plan to make money disappear?

  • Thanks for the update. This case illustrates the GOP methodology perfectly.

  • I'm not sure "negligence" is the right word, considering all the stories about FEMA's efforts to stop relief from getting to people who desperately needed it. The Red Cross wasn't allowed into New Orleans, no portajohns for upwards of 50,000 people until Saturday, and the three instances listed by Aaron Broussard on MTP this morning.

Why lock thousands of people in a stadium with no power or water and raw sewage flowing all around, preventing water and food from being delivered in the name of "security", unless you want to start a riot? With lots of military types armed and ready, it would have been a bloodbath.

It's hard to express how much I hate these people.

  • Accoding to Wikipedia,

"One of the e-mails he sent that day was to a journalist on the New York Times, to whom Kelly mentioned "many dark actors playing games,"

The 2nd link after that sentence is a pdf of the email with names blacked out. Wiki says the email was sent to someone at the NY Times.

I'm not sure about the exact dates of the records requested. Most were from 7-6 to 7-13-2003, but maybe Fitzgerald went farther back.

  • That mysterious second source is still a mystery. The British won't say who it is.

The UK Government continues to stand by the claim, which was also in its 24 September 2002 Dossier, that Iraq sought to procure significant quantities of uranium from Africa, stating that they have evidence from ‘the intelligence service of another Government’  for their claim that is unaffected by the forged intelligence revealed by the IAEA.

Blair's protecting himself and Bush. If one goes down for this, the other will too.

  • And yet again! Recently, Pincus wrote about this very topic.
    http://www.niemanwatchdog.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=Showcase.view&
    amp;showcaseid=0019
"On July 12, 2003, an administration official, who was talking to me confidentially about a matter involving alleged Iraqi nuclear activities, veered off the precise matter we were discussing and told me that the White House had not paid attention to former Ambassador Joseph Wilson’s CIA-sponsored February 2002 trip to Niger because it was set up as a boondoggle by his wife, an analyst with the agency working on weapons of mass destruction."
If Rove was Pincus source, that makes it 3 times he casually discussed Wilson's wife.
If it wasn't Rove, a second person was "accidentally" leaking the exact same info.  That spells conspiracy.

  • Thank you for posting this. Despite the continued GOP spin in the media, loyal Americans see this desperate act of revenge for what it is. Let's hope the investigators are thorough and identify every bastard that was part of this plot. And that someday, the public learns the whole story. It'll be ugly and painful, but necessary for our democracy to survive.
