A Little Boycott - Heinz & Dunkin Donuts
You've heard the phrase, "Damned if they do, damned if they don't." I never thought I'd help put anyone, even a company, into that rock-and-hard-place position, but that's it. I've had it.Next time I want donuts, I'm avoiding Dunkin'.Next time...more »

When to Say "WHEN"
I just read an article in the NYT about Hillary Clinton's latest financial woes. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/20/us/politics/20donor.html?pagewanted=1See, the people who are funding her campaign have all maxed out their legal contributions, and so they're trying to come up with creative ways to get...more »

I wholly agree. When's the last time we had a leader who said, "Thank you for organizing to disagree with me. It's important to hear your points, even if I don't change my position because of them. Let's keep this discussion open. Disagreement is good."
WHEN has this ever happened in our lifetimes?

McCain camp, Two weeks ago:
Can you believe Obama hasn't even BEEN to Iraq [this year]? Whassamatta, Obama? Scared? We invite you to come to Iraq with McCain! Hey, look, Obama hasn't agreed to go to Iraq with McCain--is he CHICKEN? How can he talk about Iraq? Vote McCain; he visits Iraq.McCain camp, Today:
Can you believe Obama is going to Iraq!? What a pansy, just doing it for political purposes. It's not like he'll change his mind anyway. Vote McCain; he's consistent.Oh.
My.
God.No wonder he had the reputation of being a schoolyard bully and was called McNasty.

Hee! PUMA. A threat. Right.
My lastest "gee, that's silly" thought is how they chose a cat acronym. Pretty odd, for an organization supposedly supporting a feminist. For YEARS, women have been noting cat references as one of the many ways in which language is used agaisnt women--younger women are sex kittens, supposedly "older" (meaning middle aged) women with a sex life are cougars, women who "misbehave" are catty, etc.
So PUMA. Riiiiight. Pro-women my fluffy tail.

I sometimes wonder if some of us Democrats would rather have something to rail AGAINST than something to hope FOR. I hope I'm wrong. I'm against those tactics :-)

I've learned many of the same things, fitz, and am still in the process of learning them. Last week my mom mentioned that the year is half over, and when I cheered that it would see Bush leave office, she said, "You're too focused on him."
I clarified that I meant the Bush ADMINISTRATION more than Bush himself--but also pointed out that as long as people are dying for his policies, under our name as Americans, how could I *not* focus on it? I still think that. And yet, I've got to find a better way to accept the views of people who don't.

For some religions, the trade would be worthwhile. It puts me in mind of the "funeral games" segment of the Iliad, when King Priam was so desperate to get his son Hector's body back so that Hector could continue on to the afterlife.
If I'm the Prez or PM of a relatively non-religious country, or at least one w/a separation of Church and State, no way do I make the trade. A criminal can commit more crimes and thus remains dangerous; a body is the shell of someone who has already passed. Also, this feels like a reward to someone who killed my soldiers.
If not, it becomes a lot more complicated....

Oh, THANK YOU, oakviolin! I just checked them out, and since they use Sprint's network (though they aren't Sprint), they do have a pretty good coverage. I LOVE the idea of a phone company that exists to support progressive causes, and will do some serious comparison b/t them and my own plan. Unless they're seriously more expensive, I should be a CredoMobile user within the week.
