  • Wasn't McCain -Feingold supposed to end soft money ads? Can someone explain to me how the RNC can be running ads for McCain?

  • Perhaps you should read the whole speech. I think you'll agree with what he wants to do. He is calling for putting the entire country and the resources of the govt. to solving the problem. A "manhattan project" for energy.

  • I received one of those emails today. Hre was my response:

    Dear Speaker Pelosi,

What good does it do to have a Democratic congress if they refuse to stand up for our priciples? The FISA bill being debated today should never have been brought up for consideration. Capitulation is not the same thing as compromise. It seems every time you "compromise" with the Bush Administration, the only thing that gets compromised are the voter's rights.

I'll be glad to help more democrats get elected when they stop caving in every time the Republicans try to scare them into yet another capitulation. It's time we stopped focusing on more Democrats and started focusing on better Democrats. I would like to help get elected people who won't sell my right to privacy to the highest telecom bidder.

  • "Many would like for him to wage a big fight. There is a major risk in doing so. This compromise is supported by many DEMS and was worked out by DEM Leaders. How would it look to the general public if he is unable to bend the will of his own party's leaders in Congress. That is what would happen if he started a fight now. He would look weak and that would bode well for his chances of actually bending Congress to his will as President. "

I disagree. Fighting would make him look like a strong leader who is willing to stand up for his principles, regardless of who he has to stand up to. How would it look to the public? It would look like he's taking control of the party and forcing them to finally stand up to the president who 70% of the public disagrees with. It would look like he is willing to take a risk to do the right thing, and show what happens when Democrats grow spines.

  • What about Option D:

He could call Harry Reid and let him know he's putting a hold on the bill until further notice. He could suggest that they pass a FISA with all of the updates needed without immunity. and If Harry doesn't honor his hold, he can filibuster the bill and support Chris Dodd or Pat Leahey for Majority Leader in the new congress with the new Obama administration.

In other words, he could take a strong principled stand.

I've been a strong supporter of Senator Obama since the beginning of the campaign, but I'll be extremely disappointed of he lets the bill pass without a real fight.

  • If we are willing to give up our freedom because of a few terrorists, then haven't the terrorists already won?

I will not let a few radicals destroy everything this country was founded on.

John McCain does not understand that you don't fight terrorists by giving them what they want.

  • Ted Kennedy, Bernie Sanders, John Kerry and Chris Dodd are all more Liberal than Obama.

Obama worked with Republican Tom coburn on the Open Government legislation. You can now go to a website and see where your tax dollars are going.

He also worked with Richard Lugar on getting control of loose nukes in Russia and around the world.

Not the results pre se but the "facts "they choose to check made me suspicious years ago.
