  • Navy mom...there never was immunity for criminal activity or behavior in the bill. You don't know what you are talking about. Go to www.glenngreenwald@salon.com and learn what the truth is without the propaganda or deceitful spin. This is not a compromise by any definition. What they say they are "compromising" on was already in the original FISA law.

You can't be taken seriously when it's so obvious you haven't really seen what is happening here. Don't be afraid...go learn somethings.

  • ***Ohiomeister...god man go to another site. Your misinformation needs some corrections and I'm sure you can find it at www.glenngreenwald@salon.com.
FISA originally said that any classified information could be presented to a judge in confidence for his consideration as evidence ...like from the telecoms...nothing new here... and has been ruled on already in favor of the plantiffs...Only this bill grants immunity...they do not get it otherwise. If they did they would not have spent a fortune trying to ensure they would get immunity. If this bill did not pass with retroactive immunity they WOULD NOT GET IMMUNITY. This is explained at Glenn's site. He also has the original FISA enactment with the conclusions of the Church group. Having letters from Bush does not waive their lawbreaking unless this FiSA bill with immunity is passed.

  • Criticizing Obama for being dead wrong on Fisa does not translate to not voting for him. I will call out anyone who tramples on the fourth amendment. The deceitful spin his campaign has put on justifying his support has been totally debunked by Glenn Greenwald@salon.com, so we still don't know the real reason why he is supporting it since none of his claims are based in fact.

I totally resent Josh's take on it that we should just give it a pass because it's not that important because this is exactly what Bush supporters did for Bush. The candidate should be called out anytime he tramples on our constitutional freedoms no matter what party. Doesn't mean I won't vote for him or that he's not 100Xs better than McCain...but a pass he should not get. He needs to know we disapprove.

Now to the reason...If he opposed this bill what consequences would there have been and would they be as bad as the ones he's facing now. Opposing it is the right thing to do and will eventually prove to be politically correct as well. There is no move to the center because the country has been so far moved to the right that the center is left. Moving to the center is nothing more than moving to the right. The line is drawn, Iraq war or no Iraq war...illegal spying on Americans without warrants or oversight or no spying on Americans with out warrants or oversight...etc. We expect Obama to stand up for our freedoms and the rule of law as he's promised to. This so called "moving to the center" is how the dems lost elections. When they stood firm against Iraq and government corruption and law breaking they won overwhelmingly in '06. I will not stand back and say my Obama right or wrong especially if he starts supporting torture etc. and I will still vote for him because the alternative is horrifying. But give it a pass just to avoid conflict...no way.

  • You can have the AG Mukasey arrested. He's not above the law. Why is he refusing to honor a subpoena if not for pure obstructionism. Like I said, without the threat of impeachment behind these investigations, they are meaningless. God I hate Pelosi. Just think of how different things would be now if there were impeachment hearings going on. 7years and $70 million to Ken Starr for bullshit but the dem leaders don't want to take away from "policy making"...like the FISA capitulation. Just Pathetic.

Mukasey and handlers are laughing at their ability to break the law with no consequences.

  • I cannot stand this mealey mouth bigot.

Wouldn't, by Joe's own logic, that mean that the attack would happen even if McCain were president. I just can't wait till he is irrelevant to the press too.

Posted at June 30, 2008 5:31 PM in response to Lieberman Suggests There Will Be Terrorist Attack In 2009

  • Move on made a mint in contributitons for their ad which merely suggesting that Btray us was a politician doing his Bush service. It was accurate and the capitulating dems jumped to the repub den but when Limbaugh made his critical remarks a week later and Reid stood up republicans and the media started whistling in the dark with hands behind their backs. All dem leaders got out of that one was "move on-bad" instead of republicans--hypocrites. Sorry but I found this speech to be less than Obama's normally good rhetoric. It isn't even clear what he's trying to say about the '60s when people first began to stand up to the military industrial complex. In retrospect the VietNam war looks pretty silly now. Didn't know then the difference btween viet namiese, chinese, tawainese, Koreans, Japanese,...just all red communist bastards. Kind of like now with Sunnis, Shiias, Kurds, Persians, Arabs...just all Islamo fascists. Confused as they ever were except for the war profiteers who really don't give a damn.

Yeah, '60s...Martin Luther King (illegally wiretapped too) standing up so a black man could one day be president without race being a factor(who approves of warrantless spying on people like Martin Luther King)...the irony is comical

Posted at June 30, 2008 5:22 PM in response to Obama's Patriotism Speech Stresses Life Story, Criticizes MoveOn

  • Sorry, shouldn't be so disrespectful but the "McCain can win meme" is used so often as a threat making people fearful and paranoid and it upsets me because it is totally misguided. With the current republican obstructionist disaster continuing and republicans insistent to continue marching lock step right over the cliff the dems could have nominated a blind monkey and it would win in a landslide if there was even the hint of throwing these bums out. This disaster must end and voters feel compelled to end it out of necessity. The few people bobbing around with the look at what McCain is saying and doing etc as if he isn't what he is (Bush III). Your observations are based on an election history that doesn't exist for this election for this one is like no other because of the current disaster we find ourselves in.

No matter how you try to make us fearful the truth is that no matter what Obama is doing he is still 100Xs better choice than McCain.

That said, I can still support Obama and criticize him when he makes extremely bad decisions like supporting FISA because if it were up to McCain there would be no fourth amendment, only executive decree.

"...If they don't believe that, voters, especially older ones, will take the safe course and install McCain for a while."
This is no "safe course" and calling it one shows a lack of understanding and buying into bogus republican talking points. More wars, attack Iran, no national health care, permanent tax cuts for the ultral wealthy, corporate tax breaks, drill the continent screw the environment McCain is a safe course??? What planet have you been living on? I don't know your other work but none of this made me fearful of "McCain can win" and I know how to be paranoid. I just don't see any merit here.

  • What a complete fear mongering ditto head. Always somebody trying to make a name or get an article published with the fear mongering of "oh no, McCain can win" etc.
So McCain is out there making a bigger fool of himself than ever before and we are supposed to be impressed. The fool is seen everywhere what is wrong with Obama?
Let the sky keep falling on your head with such absurd commentary exploiting "possibilities" of no importance in reality. Everything McCain says and does is wrong and makes him look like an old doddering fool who can barely remember where he put his keys which translates into Obama isn't doing enough.
McCain could never be seen as an activist or as different from Bush because he isn't by any measure and all attempts to pain Obama as anything fails completely except with the McCain base. You ignore all the evidence and replace it with a calculation of fear. What a waste of journalistic space.

  • Can't Pelosi see that huge amounts of campaign money is being raised...to target these same dems who caved in on the FISA giveaway to get rid of them. That is where a major portion of the contributions are going, to get rid of these spineless Bush enablers. Last count was over $250 thousand raised in two days to get rid of House dems voting for this FISA horror. Heck of a job Pelosi especially your lying spin on the FISA measure. As Kit Bond said..."the WH got more than it even dreamed it would get". Heck of a job...Bush is so proud of you since you gave him more than the GOP controlled congress ever did on FISA. No money for you. Say bye-bye
