  • Person #1 and person #2 you mention are one in the same. The ex-business partner who filed to get his divorce papers sealed was person from the snowmobile business.

Don't know if there's anything of substance here or if this is just more scrubbing of anything that might remotely resemble a paper trail of Sarah Palin's past in Alaska. Oft times, the attempted scrubbing is and of itself a lot worse than what's actually being scrubbed as it leaves the impression that something terrible is being covered up.

The appearance of cover-up may be just as damaging to her as anything that might be actually discovered otherwise.

  • 4)He said he'd do something and then gave it the warm spit approach. Better to have said nothing.

Hmmm. well, Des, I'm not a Hillary die hard by any means (although I did support and contribute to her campaign), but I have to lean with you on this one. If everyone who voted in the Democratic primaries for either candidate contributed, what, fifty cents each, her campaign debt could be retired.

Let's hope that everyone who speaks at the Democratic National Convention makes a point of bringing it up.

  • I hear you, Qwerty - I've been frustrated at times during this election cycle as well. As a matter of fact, I've experienced varying degrees of political frustration since Hubert Humphrey lost the election in'68. But, along the way I learned some valuable lessons from my late stepfather, an ardent labor activist and more politically savvy than I could ever hope to be:

#1) First, you have to win the election (don't cut off your nose to spite your face) - #2) Recognize that a win is not necessarily a mandate for immediate and sweeping change (re: Pres. Clinton and the early push for universal heath care) - #3) Pick your battles wisely - and that is tied to - #4) Be willing to compromise in order to move forward on the fundamental ideas that define your agenda.

Politics is about the big picture - not about a snapshot framing only the parts that apppeal to us in our personal ideologies.

  • Of COURSE he welched on the offer. He suddenly realized that the good people of Yuma might get irritated at him when all those tent cities popped up in their midst as tens of thousands of hard working Americans showed up at their doorstep following the promise of a $2,000 a week paycheck.

Maybe that should the linchpin of McCain's economic recovery plan - plant more lettuce! Then pay anyone willing to pick it $50 an hour - it'll make the New Deal look like amateur hour - be sure to include a bonus for the arugula pickers...

  • When you base your campaign on "change we can believe in," you'd better have someone on the ticket with "the experience to make it happen."

    Excellent choice.

  • Maybe every time McCain's staff brings up the POW thing, the response should include "while we respect the senator in regards to the fact he was once held as a detainee..."

  • I think this is just an opening salvo - a shot over the bow - and there are much harsher criticisms to come - beginning with the convention. Next week, the speakers during the evenings leading up to Obama's acceptance speech will carry the water as far as hitting McCain hard leaving Obama to deliver a positive message of hope and change during what will probably be his most important and most publicised speech ever. After that, I look for the gloves to come off.

And as far as Obama expressing respect for McCain's service and not challenging his character in front of a VFW crowd - and only after paying the expected homage to McCain making his point, seems to me to be well thought out.

To do otherwise would equate to insulting someone's mother and then once you had thoroughly ticked them off expecting them to listen to your reasoning. Better to first say that I respect your mom and all she's done in your eyes, but I've noticed something I want you to think about.

  • He is not alone...
according to the Center for Responsive Politics, military members are contributing more to the Obama campaign than the McCain campaign. Troops who are currently deployed have contributed more to the Obama campaign by a margin of 6-1.

It's one thing for an old soldier running for public office who served his country with honor to talk in vague terms about supporting the troops - but let's instead take a look at who our troops currently in harm's way trust to be their next commander in chief.
