Even a man of integrity like Hagel won't get my vote. He'd have to do two things he's not likely to do; 1) adopt some progressive domestic policies; and, b) even less likely, apologize on behalf of the GOP for the last 25 years. But, I still wish Republicans would nominate someone like him. It would be a giant step in the right direction. Good luck to all of us if they don't.

I feel like my Republican dad and I reached the crux of the divide a few years back when the argument over health care peaked with him saying "but, you believe in socialism" and I said, "Yes. And, I believe in capitalism. I believe in whatever works and I want the stuff that doesn't work out of the way." I don't know how it's packaged but the baseline difference is; Democrats are practical problem solving people and Republicans are caught up in a fundamentalist fantasy-world hell. The look on my Dad's face told me he figured that out on that particular day. Please package this message.
