  • What concerns me most about the DOJ right now is the fact that these individuals are still employed by DOJ.

Over the years the Republicans have attempted to pack the court with their ideologues. Now it appears that they've simply changed the focus to the DOJ.

  • My biggest issue with all of this is simply one of accountability.

Even if Congress chose not to impeach the President over all of this, they should at least take SOME type of action, even if it is symbolic. Censure.

Bush has established the precedent that lying a country into war is acceptable.

More to the point, given the rhetoric coming out of the White House right now, Congress needs to take a step that tells the President, if he attacks Iran, he's going to jail. Not impeached, jail.

  • Please excuse me while I go out and blow my brains out.

How on earth can any of these states be this close?

We have a Republican candidate who is a poor excuse for what has been eight years of disaster.

Is this country really that accepting of corruption and incompetence that these numbers are true.

For the sake of the country, I sincerely hope not.

  • John Yoo had a history of being able to write "opinions" that conveniently met the requests of the party asking for decisions as opposed to actually doing legal work.

I find it interesting that these memos have come out all of a sudden. They've been withheld up to this point.

    Why the sudden change?

  • Some time ago, the conservative wing of the Catholic church pushed for the church to deny the sacraments to any church member/politician who supported abortion in any way.

I wonder how Scalia would feel if he went to church on Sunday and they said, sorry Charlie, but until you change your view on torture, you're out of luck?

  • One thing that I haven't seen anyone comment on relating to the torture issue.

    Saddam Hussein.

Next to Osama bin Laden, he has to have been the highest priority target for the US.

So Saddam simply gave the US every piece of information that they wanted about everything he knew about?
He didn't have any information that was worthwhile?
We tortured him, but forgot to include him in the 3 people we've admitted to?

Does anyone else find that a little odd?

  • Peter,

Thank you very much for you insight.

Given the administration's success at avoiding getting any of these actions into the court system, it appears that the resolution of this concept is not very likely.

I truly wonder how long it is going to take the United States to "undo" the damage that has been done to our system of government by Cheney through his buffoon Bush?

  • I would really like to see some legal experts comment on this.

It is my understanding that this position is entirely out of line.

I can understand it coming from someone with the administration. Coming from an ex-Federal judge is absolutely mind boggling.
