Ehhhhh. Busy, I guess. Trying to orchestrate a career change; busy at work getting ready for a trip; but mostly I tend to reach a saturation point where I stop posting on forums and stuff. I'm still around though and I do like to comment once in awhile :)

Perhaps I'll try to stick around more.

    My guess is 37.

Strangely enough, O'Reilly will go very easy on Clinton, despite the fact that he never goes easy on anyone unless they're a fellow right winger.

  • Just remember Jefferson's three boxes of controlling our government:

Ballot box, jury box, and ammo box.

In this case, two out of three have been eliminated. A few hundred more Supreme Court decisions like this one and high gas prices will be the least of our concerns.

  • You should be given a free ID when you register to vote. Sounds like a simple solution.

No, no, no, no, no, NO! Now, THAT would be an undue financial hardship on the states! We MUST remember that protecting the STATE's interest in the ELECTIONS is FAR, FAR more important than protecting the right to vote!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • If Obama had done what you seem to have wanted him to do, he would have come off peevish and defensive, and Fox would be rolling the tape of his performance on an endless loop from now until November.

Not to mention that many conservatives watch Fox News religiously and would be more than a little offended to see Obama insulting THEIR network. Certainly not the way to build bridges. No, Obama presented himself the way he needed to, the way he should have. Attacking Fox News in any sense would merely have widened the divide between him and any hope of attracting waffling conservatives and independents.

But, maybe that's exactly what liberals like Greg are after - widen the breach, because anything to serve the "us" versus "them" mentality must be a good thing. No matter that it has a tendency to rip the country apart.

Posted at April 27, 2008 6:11 PM in response to Obama Doesn't "Take Fox On," After All

  • And I clearly said in the post that he wasn't obliged to do this.

Oh - but now you're harping on him for not having been confrontational. So which is it? Seems to me like a huge case of schadenfreude, Greg. Looking to pounce on the smallest thing, you chose this.

When I heard Obama was going to "take on" Fox, I interpreted that to mean he was finally going to address that as a responsibility of his campaign - to "accept as a challenge", meaning, something difficult to do. Just so you're aware that there's far more than two ways to interpret that phrase.

  • I have lived through recessions before, they last about two quarters and in my humble opinion we’ve lived those two quarters already.

The Great Depression lasted a decade. It was the consequence of an unstable financial system fueled by inadequate regulation. Where am I going with this?

In the past 15 years, many of the regulations controlling how and where banks spend their money have been repealed. Our financial markets look more like they did pre-Crash than they did in any of the recessions in the past 30 years.

In other words, "This ain't your grandfather's recession." It'll take quite some time for the full consequence of this to be realized, but when the banks go broke (depression, DEEP recession), there's a much larger problem than when YOU go broke (recession).

Starting late this May, things will begin to improve with the help of those ‘cashed in’ rebate checks.

We're looking at market cap losses of trillions. It's an understatement to say a $150 billion stimulus package will do less than nothing, particularly when 60% of Americans intend to save or pay off debt with that money. That will not put money into the economy.

Will it be his misstatements or his age?

His age, he'll do all by himself. Never interfere when a candidate is torpedoing himself.

As for his misstatements - I suppose his refusal to support an equal wage for women is a 'misstatement' that will help him in November, yes? Or his continuing lack of understanding about the various sects in Iraq and which of them are responsible for the violence - a misunderstanding that goes far beyond 'misstatements.'

‘THAT’ was the oil companies (and the oil men in the White House) plan to begin with. Get those prices so high that by the time they have to drop them to get re-elected into office, they only have to drop them by 15% and Americans will think they are getting a huge ‘discount’.

... gas prices always rise in the summer and fall in the fall. And either way, they still won't fall to pre-2008 levels, levels which are still quite painful for most Americans.

Oh, also - are you actually saying that the oil companies are price fixing? I mean, most of us have always suspected, but no Republican has ever been willing to admit it before...
