  • Hillary Clinton Could Make me a Republican

Prior to George W. Bush's presidency, I was open to voting for a Republican presidential candidate. In fact had John McCain been the nominee in 2000, I very well may have voted for him over Al Gore. But as I've...more »

  • Wait, so in the "war on terror" it's illegal for the people we're at war with to attack American military targets? Doesn't sound much like a war.

  • I've got no problem with Florida and Michigan delegations wanting to be seated - that is completely understandable. I also think it was wrong of the DNC to completely disenfranchise them.

What I've got a problem with is Clinton saying before the Michigan primary that the election won't count for anything, so that she could justify keeping her name on the ballot and win an uncontested victory, then later arguing that the election should count when she needs it to win.

    That's straight Bush league.

  • And that's why Obama people don't bring up experience - Clinton people do. My point is that they shouldn't. Clinton may have good ideas, leadership qualities, etc., but the fact that she was married to the president makes her as qualified as Nancy Reagan. Beyond that, she has a term and a half of senate experience. I don't find that to be much of a selling point. In fact, Clinton and Obama are both two of the least experienced candidates to compete for a major party nomination in recent memory.

Incidentally, what about my post would make you think I like Obama?

  • Mukasey's position becomes even more outrageous when combined with the White House's belief that the President is the sole intepreter of his own Article II power and that the DOJ is bound by the President's determinations. (See earlier TPM post on this point).

Together, Mukasey's and the White House's propositions mean that the President can take almost any position, claim it stems from his Art. II power, and the DOJ will be bound by the President's interpretation. Then the DOJ will be bound to "approve" the position, thereby insulating the President and others from liability.
