  • What a disingenous, steaming pile of crap! Yes, by all means, let the voters be heard!

(Oh, and by the way, we're going to encourage Obama's delegates to switch their votes, and we're going to encourage the superdelegates to vote against the majority. We'll let the voters be heard, but we don't have to listen to them.)

I am so incredibly pissed at these arrogant, elitists jerks.

  • How convenient. Extend the surge just long enough to give cover to McCain's claims that the surge is working. The game plan is obviously to hold their finger in the dyke long enough to win the election.

  • All this talk about McCain doing the classy thing is way off the mark, IMO. This is going to be the MO for the entire campaign -- a staffer or some other person not affiliated with the campaign will come out with some indenciary comment or video or whatever. McCain denounces it.

It's a twofer: it gets the nastiness out there, while McCain looks noble, classy, a "straight talker", when he denounces it.

It's BS. Mark my words -- it will happen time and again until November.

  • Tenet's entire 60 Minutes performance was awful, but the part that stuck out the most for me was when the interviewer asked a pointed question about the falsification of evidence to bring the case against Iraq. Tenet responded by saying that the interviewer was impugning the reputation of the dedicated people at the CIA!

This is the same strawman technique used by Bush and other rethugs when they say that criticizing the war is critizing the troops. What a clever way to avoid talking about the real problem. Every bit of evidence suggests that the CIA found very accurate evidence about the status of Iraq. It was the Office of Special Plans and other neocon operations that took the data and distorted it. Tenet was guilty of allowing that to happen, not the average employees of the CIA. What a disgrace.

  • There is little doubt in my mind that they are using wiretaps for purposes that have nothing to do with terrorism. Cheney, Rumsfeld, et al, rose to power in the Nixon administration, and  others in the current regime have certainly inherited that corrupt mindset. Rove, for example, is well-known for his political dirty trick.

I would not be the least bit surprised to learn that there has been extensive political and corporate espionage going on. My gut tells me that Bolton's NSA intercepts would have revealed some such nefarious spying activity.

I simply do not trust the Bush/Cheney administration and I put nothing past them.

  • Over at First Draft, Holden points out that DeLay's attorney, Dick DeGuerin "had contributed $2,500 to the Democratic National Committee, $1,000 to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, and a total of $11,800 to six Democratic candidates including a $1,000 donation to Nick Lampson in 1996 who just happens to be running against Tom DeLay in 2006."

Interesting factoid. Guess as long as you don't contribute to that commie operation Moveon, you're ok.

  • I totally agree that his comment about Lott's house went way beyong "tone deaf". It was sick. Tasteless, given the emergency that is still going on. I'm sure he intended the comment to be a humorous part of his "Rah rah! Rebuild Mississippi" speech, but it really illustrates that he is clueless as to how such statements come across to the average person.

There is something pathologically wrong with the Bush family and the crowd they surround themselves with. The 5-week vacations, the "beautiful mind" comment by Bar, Poppy's golfing during Desert Storm, Condi's shoe shopping...these are Marie Antoinettes of the highest order. Their sense of aristocratic entitlement is disgusting; their flippant comments during national disasters tells you all you need to know about the way they see the world and their priveleged position in it.

It's bad enough that they view themselves as a special class, but it's utterly inexcusable that they are totally oblivious to how their attitude comes across to others.

  • I'm happy to see speculation that Novak was bombed, because that was my first reaction, too. I try to avoid watching him, in general, so I don't know what he's normally like.

Who knows though?  He could have snapped under the pressure of the investigation. Maybe Carville's dig hit a little too close to the bone. Maybe he thought the host and Carville were ganging up on him.

In any case, what an unexpected delight!

  • By not cooperating with the White House propaganda machine, Hurricane Dennis is giving aid and comfort to the enemy. Clearly a liberal hurricane.
