  • You seriously have to wonder, when you see stuff like this, if McCain even is aware the internet exists. I mean, I know that he's used to the Bush junta saying things that were patently absurd and then having them magically turn into truth through the wonderful filter that is the MSM...

  • Speaking of Rove... has anybody inquired as to whether or not his son (who turned 18 within the last year, i believe) has signed up to serve in Iraq?

I mean, granted, there's nothing leading me to believe that he possibly couldn't have, but it would be nice confirming my belief.

  • But that's the thing - if Obama gets into smearing McCain, he won't be running the kind of campaign he wants to run.

Easier said now than two days before the election,
when Fox is going 24/7 with "Are Obama and Osama Secret Best Friends?" coverage... when the guy who claims he slept with and bought crack from Obama in college is doing the Morning Show Circuit... etc etc.

  • The only way for some Americans to get over that hump - thinking they could never vote for a black president - is to have a black president. When the sky doesn't fall, some of their prejudices will ease.

Yeah, you make a good point. But on the other hand, if Obama is the president... there is going to be a HUGE underground movement on the rightwing to encourage that festering, fanatical tendency towards racism that a lot of people have on the right. It isn't going to be the case where suddenly there is no place for racists to gather their red meat on him, and that the oxygen supply to racists and bigots will suddenly be choked off.

  • This seems like a great time to re-hash Smoking Joe's movie theater antics:

Lieberman likes expressions of American power. A few years ago, I was in a movie theatre in Washington when I noticed Lieberman and his wife, Hadassah, a few seats down. The film was "Behind Enemy Lines," in which Owen Wilson plays a U.S. pilot shot down in Bosnia. Whenever the American military scored an onscreen hit, Lieberman pumped his fist and said, "Yeah!" and "All right!"

  • Clinton was somewhat to the right of Dwight Eisenhower, as at least Eisenhower warned us about the military-industrial complex.

I admire Eisenhower, as do a lot of people, for this. But let's be clear about something... he made this speech as he was leaving office and at a time where he had no power to enact any sort of policy whatsoever against the military-industrial complex...

  • Anybody who has paid attention to the Republican party's behavior knows, as depressing as it is, that by November they will be openly accusing him of being an Al-Qaida sleeper agent, a Muslim, various assorted racist crap, etc etc.

McCain won't, the anchors on Fox News won't, Newt Gingrich won't... but, so what?

They just have too many people who have no morals in positions to spread this stuff, and have too little options otherwise.

    That said...

I'm all for them pulling this crap. I honestly believe it's not gonna work for them this time... maybe it will in the south and in states that are lost causes, anyway.

But let's ask ourselves how many people are going to go the other way, and write this kind of stuff off as the garbage it is? How many people are paying attention and thinking with their heads now, who weren't 4, 5, 8 years ago?

  • God, I'd love for some enterprising reporter to ask Hillary, flat-out, if she considers people who would refuse to vote for Obama, if she's not the nominee, true democrats.

The same thing for Obama supporters who say the same thing.

It blows my mind that people would actually be so dense, but i don't doubt for a moment that they are.

  • They'd have had a better chance of seeing that money again if they had just printed out a roster from a penitentiary, thrown a dart at random, sent an envelope with cash to that guy, and then asked him in a year for it back.

  • I have called this from day one that Obama was talked about as a potential candidate.

I think we haven't even seen the bottom yet, either. I think we'll be in November hearing that he's a potential Al-Qaida sleeper agent, or has affiliations with terrorism. As terrible as that thought it, I don't have any doubt that the republican party would sink to that if it was a means to the end.

And i'd go so far as to say that the only real reason that the RNC and McCain camp have resisted this type of talk is that they don't want to blow their load before it counts. Much like how it wouldn't have made any sense for the Swift Boat Veterans to come out with their smears of Kerry 9 months before the Election of '04.

And besides, the Republican party is damn smart enough to realize that smearing Obama in this way can completely be accomplished by right wing radio, party operatives, Fox, columnists, etc. You don't need McCain or Bush or anybody nearly that important spreading this stuff to get it out there.
