  • Not sure if this has been made clear downstream ... but Obama ripping off Clinton is besides the point. The argument they are making is that Obama just beat them, plain and simple. Not just that, but he beat them at their own game.

It's fair to say that Hillary herself took up Bill's 92 campaign, as well. The difference was that she didn't started doing it until she was so far behind, that it couldn't help her except to tread water. Thus the arguments about Superdelegates. And popular vote. And the increasingly desperate attacks.

The styles are the similar, yes. But the argument is that Obama would have beaten Bill Clinton in 92, because he does "it" better.

  • Exactly. I don't know how it is in your neck of the woods, but around here there was a 20-cent jump in gas prices in the past week. Whoops, there goes that saving. That and the fact it'd never get out of Congress.

Not sure why that isn't the angle of attack on this issue. That 18-cents will be gobbled up happily by the oil companies.

  • Exactly right (no pun intended). But the only way Eric can say this was "backhanded" is by assuming the word "politician" is a dig.

As for the "meat" of this story - while I'm glad Wright is out there and I think talking to Bill Moyers is probably the best person to talk to (hey, maybe it'll make other people aware of him!), I also know what kind of hay is going to be made of this. Such as Eric's "backhanded" interpretation of the remarks, regardless of the context.

Funny, being that's the subject of the piece...

  • Perhaps everyone is recommending the diary for your 2nd comment proving this wrong? You should feel happy. You're in service of your candidate today! Yay!

  • But all those are facts. And in modern American journalism, you never let a fact get in the way of a good story.

  • Isn't "politician" a four-letter word?

  • Living in the St. Paul area, but not too engaged with local politics (I just moved here barely a year ago), I have seen many Coleman commercials - all touting his independence from Bush. I haven't seen a single ad on the teevee or heard anything on the Radio (mostly listen to KQ here). Yeah I know Franken is running - but I don't see anything coming from him. Nor in the northern part of the state where I am from originally, and which was the base of Wellstone's strength and could be his...

Honestly, besides articles in the newspaper, I wasn't even sure Franken was running all that seriously. These numbers don't surprise me one bit.

  • Saw that too. Amazing that the "netroots" has daily fits about the MSM taking comments completely out of context, twisting their meaning ... and then does the exact same thing.

The quote: "I think there are some people who felt like, God, when will this be over? You know? It's like a good movie that lasted about a half an hour too long ... BUT ..." etc.

It's hyperbole, people. A standard method to highlight the ridiculousness of an argument, before offering a counter-argument. It wasn't the arrogance, it was a quip. A good line. Not really worth getting the vapors over, is it?

Also, TPM - We get enough crap coming from election blogs on every other news site. Hold yourselves to a higher standard. Is the next article going to be about Obama taking $200,000 from "oil companies"?
