I've always suspected this of the Politico, which is being treated by the MSM as impartial. Their tone, however, is very much slanted. Speaking of Politico's sycophantic service to the GOP, Allen's colleague, David Paul Kuhn, today has an article...more »

  • Edit - "It's arrogant and stupid for the left *to* pretend that this FISA argument, whatever the virtues, is a great winner at the ballot box. "

Posted at July 4, 2008 9:27 AM in response to Senator Obama - our new "Decider"? When Do we see the part about We'll Chart a New Course?

  • Yep, the GOP is winning this round. Obama needs to hammer this meme into the ground with a hammer for the next few days. (Of course, still probably helps feed the MSM narrative of casting doubt -- "you protest too much")) Grrrrrrr. I hate the Media.

  • Oh, and use of the word "Decider" (with all the Bush baggage of "screw you, I do what I want") is pretty obnoxious and sly. I hate when people manipulate discussion with loaded words and language.

Posted at July 4, 2008 9:24 AM in response to Senator Obama - our new "Decider"? When Do we see the part about We'll Chart a New Course?

  • "Senator Obama, you fail to see the real problem with your decision to vote for the FISA bill over what the ‘people’ want."

This is a littler hubristic on your part.

    Are you "the people"??

How many Americans even know what FISA is? OR care about immunity???

It's arrogant and stupid for the left not pretend that this FISA argument, whatever the virtues, is a great winner at the ballot box. Yeah, right. We're making progress but not that quickly.

I dare say that if the Bill of Rights were put to referrendum today it would LOSE. Civil liberties have never exactly been popular -- they often defend unpopular minority views -- which is why they are important, but not easy.

In a democracy there are many views and politicians must balance and merge them to find a middle ground and compromise.

It doesn't help if one group is always pounding the table that THEY alone are right and everyone else is stupid and you have to listen to us or else.

Posted at July 4, 2008 9:21 AM in response to Senator Obama - our new "Decider"? When Do we see the part about We'll Chart a New Course?

  • Exactly. He has no power himself here, only his vote.

And the votes in the Senate don't look like enough.

I think it is a lost cause. The best we can hope for is a fillibuster that delays this thing until next year.

Posted at July 4, 2008 9:16 AM in response to Senator Obama - our new "Decider"? When Do we see the part about We'll Chart a New Course?

  • "Just think how tired and dispirited he must get - day in and day out with all the media crap and naysayers in his face 24/7. And all the armchair critics who know oh, so much better than him and never hesitate to shout it out and him down!"

    You said it.

He's "not black enough" and then later "too black".

The netroots claims he's "not really a liberal" at the same time the GOP is calling him the "most liberal senator in 2007"

I admire his perseverence and calm in the face of all the naysayers and cynics.

But have no worries -- how sweet it will be on January 20, 2009 when Barack Obama is sworn in.

Posted at July 4, 2008 9:14 AM in response to Obama's Enthusiasm Gap

  • "I wonder just how many of the people screaming about how bad the FISA bills (House and Senate versions) have read either. It's probably a number down in the low "ones.""

They don't need to read it. That have the infallible views of Greenwald and Kos to guide them and tell them what to think.

I appreciate activism, but not unhinged and *stupid* mob mentalities that devolve into absolutist extremism.

Here's proof there is no FISA "debate": Can you envision a scenario or position whereby Netroots would "agree to disagree" or be able to respectfully disagree? Absolutely not. They are RIGHT, and you are wrong if you disagree. Either you are with them or you "hate the constitution".

Posted at July 4, 2008 9:11 AM in response to FISA - Obsession or Rational Debate??

  • Well, good job getting the MSM to spend several days parroting rightwing smears.

Let's hope Obama can control the newscycle a little better going forward.

MCcain is tghe flipflopper but no one calls him on it, and the MSM ignores it.

No one is vetting McBush, hot-headed angry little creep.

Posted at July 4, 2008 9:05 AM in response to Obama Reiterates: Combat Troops Out Of Iraq In 16 Months

  • Eventually these will be run by GOP in Netroots clothing. Just like Nader was receiving most of his funding from the GOP in 2000.

    This is easy to predict.
