10 Reasons for Barack Obama to Pick Bill Richardson for VP
I'm starting to think Bill Richardson is the best choice for Barack Obama to pick as VP. I really like John Edwards, Claire McCaskill, Jim Webb, and other folks who have been mentioned recently, but there are just so many positives...more »

A Plea: Make Democratic Superdelegates Endorse or Pledge their Support!
We have all now become familiar with the distinction between superdelegates, who are elected officials and Democratic party leaders, and elected delegates, who are the delegates chosen by each state (usually by congressional district). Before the primaries go any further, we...more »

My thoughts exactly.
John McCain is gay for Hamas!!! I'm pretty sure the GOP base will think that's way worse than negotiating with Hamas!

I would love to see a discussion of how the McBush version of being "pro-Israel" is actually NOT pro-Israel and has not made Israel safer.

I'm starting to think Bill Richardson is the best choice. There are just so many positives to picking him.
1. Serious foreign policy credentials and credibility.
2. He can say that he's negotiated with dictators and the Earth didn't melt.
2. Governor not a Congressman (although a former Congressman).
3. From a swing state.
4. From the important Mountain West region.
5. Helps with Hispanic voters.
6. Optimistic and upbeat campaigner.
7. Hopefully well vetted from his presidential campaign.
8. New face (for the public), so helps reinforce Obama's message of CHANGE.
9. First Hispanic VP, so reinforces how historic the Dem ticket is.
10. Stood up to Clintons and endorsed Obama!

A poverty tour with Edwards through Appalachia could really help Obama's campaign anyway. I think it's worth trying to win some hearts and minds in SW PA, SE OH, and VA.
They could hit inner cities in some of the swing states as well, Detroit, Cleveland, Philly, St. Louis. New Orleans was a good stop, as President Bush was hanging out with McCain, I think at McCain's birthday in Arizona, instead of doing anything to help the city in the aftermath of Katrina.
I'd like to see them stop at one of the poverty stricken Native American reservations out west as well, as they are often places where most people don't realize the poverty. Not all are poor, but some are among the poorest places in the country.

Don't worry. We'll win in lots of places where race is a less salient issue for voters. The mountain west and upper midwest states show strong support for Obama.

If someone really cares about ending the war, they are already voting for Obama, who spoke out against getting us involved in the war in the first place.
More importantly, what's with Joe's hair? He went from having a mane to looking mangy.

Dear American Leadership Project:
Thank you and your wealthy individual donors and pro-Hillary unions for wasting millions of dollars to prolong an intramural Democratic primary fight long after your candidate had been mathematically eliminated. I'm sure we won't need that money in the fall against John McCain or in close House or Senate races anyway.
Hillary was so obviously superior on labor issues that there could have been no doubt as to whether that was the smartest way to spend the money of your fellow union members. It's not like a filibuster-proof Senate majority would make a huge difference on issues important to unions and the progressive movement generally.
Sarcastically yours,
OM
