  • It seems that the price of even entering into the discussion of the so-called "surge" is reciting the formula about how much violence was reduced.

    In fact, the re-invasion of Iraq with five more combat brigades and aggressive use of artillery and air strikes made 2007 the bloodiest year of the entire war.

    Thousands of noncombatants died and millions were driven from their homes in the midst of the "surge" that was supposed to bring security to Iraq.

  • On the one hand, the right-wing smear committee may think they are being clever by loudly attributing the smear (rightly or wrongly) to Hillary. On the other hand, why smear now? They can't have that much ammo to use against Obama, why waste it eight months before election day?

  • Senator McCain already voted for the Military Commissions Act which legalized torture. So this is not a first for him. As a former supporter from 2000, it's sad to see him abandon his principles. The one senator who truly knows about torture.

  • Waterboarding is often described as "simulated drowning." However, as Malcolm Nance wrote in the Small Wars Journal, the victim is in fact drowning and can die. When did the USA become a banana republic?
