  • Suggestion: the same names keep coming up year after year on the fraud, cost overruns, crime- committed-in-a-foreign-country news stories. I have trouble keeping things straight. How 'bout it TPM, why not a running top ten list of these slugs with a running total of incidents and amounts since, say, the last quarter or year-over-year. You've already got one annual award going, why not a Corporate Turkey Award every Thanksgiving?

  • On Monday, June 27, 2005, Bunnatine Greenhouse, a Senior Procurement Officer for the DOD testified before Congress about ongoing contract abuse in the department. She chose that course only after she had exhausted all internal avenues. She was dismissed as a semior procurment officer and religated to a desk-without-portfolio somewhere in the basement after a 20 year career. While much of her testimony centered on 2003 no-bid contracts to KBR, then a Haliburton subsidiary, which she believed were politically motivated, her comments went beyond that case.

    The thought occurs regarding questions Waxman might want to ask Efraim Diveroli. "Who's your Daddy?"

    Was she aware that painting watch dials with radium had few beneficial effects to public tongues? Or that asbestos in shingles and insolation had beneficial effects on public lungs or that Thalidamide had....but I digress.
