this is playing out as well as mccain could hope for. if the story runs back in dec, he's toast. and even the story that is running has clearly been neutered to a certain extent and is early enough in the race to diffuse by november. plus, with no realistic alternative at this point, his nomination is pretty much safe.
imo, the times has once again spiked a story or at least timed it in such a way to benefit their favorite fat cat candidate on the right...

say what you want about modo, but she's usually correct. gore was nearly unelectable. it shouldn't have been close. and the rest of our leading dems aren't cutting it as an opposition party either. where is the organized outrage that should immediately and loudly follow any right wing slur or disinformation? where's the filibuster on alito? dowd recognizes that wimpy dems truly are republican lite--minus the ruthlessness and perseverance it takes to get elected and hold power of course.
1300 words to pick on modo... heckuva job reedy!

serial killers are mostly white males. should we argue killing all newborn white males to remove the threat of serial killers? it is absurd to even talk about and of little value much like bennett's comments. bennett's comments however do serve to keep racist sentiments and divisions in the public discourse and matt plays right into this stategy by defending bennett's logic. further, given the large percentage of blacks who primarily support democratic candidates and ideas, is it really worth the backlash to take this idealistic logical stand that gains really nothing beyond stroking matt's little intellectual ego? for matt, was it worth it to now associate your name with the supporting of bill-fucking-bennett and his insane 'abort the black babies' comments? maybe if you are a little neo-con in the making...

couldn't have said it better... methinks young matt may regret this post one day when he's older, wiser and knows a few more black people... you see, for a rich little entitled white kid with all the world falling down over itself to enable his successes, to defend the foul statements of an idiot racist like bennett that concern the tragic and complex legacy of race and the african american experience in this country is an embarrassment. would matt make these same arguments in harlem or the southside of chicago to a community of his fellow citizens and their 'black babies'? these comments address real people, most of whom have never committed a crime yet face the realities of a world that is ordered against them. young matt needs to get out a little more and experience the world outside the ivory towers of tnr and the dlc america...
and we woder why racism persists...

how will delay's stepping down as leader effect his ability to peddle influence? will his being once removed pull him out of the loop and neuter him politically?

bush is tracking downward and sane democrats will want to distance themselves from him and his policies. anyone who votes for roberts--or any other bush priority--will have it hung around their neck come election time. the line i'd use:
"george bush has been a complete failure and can't be trusted with a lifetime appointment of this magnitude, especially someone that is not forthcoming during confirmation hearings."
it sounds shrill, but history has not been kind to the nazi appeasers, nor will it be to the modern republicans...
