If Mr. McCain was so traumatized by his being held as P. O. W. in Hanoi for 5-1/2 years that forty years later his short term memory became so weak that he can't remember how many houses he has, how is he going to remember anything about the economy if he were president. Mrs. McCain can't remember if she had sisters or half sisters. Was she also a P. O. W.?

Can we trust Bob Kerrey any more than we trust Dick Morris or Mark Penn? They were all part of the Clinton machine (Bill and/or Hillary) and since Hillary lost they would rather have McCain or even Cheney. Loathesome bunch.

This is sad, but is it important? I wonder how many men and women have extramarital affairs ? In the elections I voted in, there have been rumors about Eisenhower having had a mistress during the war, JFK mistresses in Hollywood and other parts of the globe, Nixon, George I, Bill Clinton, and some say George II in his youth. The country seems to have survived these adultries, but it has not survived the really important news: loss of civil liberties, the collapse of the middle class, and the conversion of the Government into a corrupt operation. Would that ABC had devoted as much effort to covering the wireless tapping and its implication for our future. The same for TPM.

Who would have guessed? And at his age! Joe Lieberman is turned on by Paris Hilton and Britney Spears. Aside from that, Lieberman is beginning to make McCain sound young(ish).

How come Ashcroft is not asked to recite the oath of office he took when he became Attorney General? Was it a personal oath to the President or was it a more general oath to uphold the Constitution and the laws of the United States?

Honestly, it is not a surprise. The AP has been tilting towards the neocons for almost a year now. The only news that is kind of reliable relates to science and health. It is a waste of time to read the rest. The blogs or the Comedy Channel are better sources of current events.

I wish that one day one senator would take the time (his and his co-regents) to read publicly the U. S. Constitution from end to end. It can't take long, although with the this new bill this kind of activity may become illegal - even in the senate.

Well, I suppose he was not the decider. Would the distinguished dean of the distinguished law school agree that he was the enabler? Or, perhaps, the distinguished dean thinks that Mr. Yoo was just doodling and, accidentally, the words formed into a cogent justification for torture - sort of like the way Shakespeare wrote Hamlet (as is well known in the distinguished law school in question, Shakespeare could hardly write, but somehow the words arranged themselves into that play)

It looks as if Mark Penn has replaced Jack Abramoff. There is some similarity with the playing the Indian tribes against each other for casino permits and what Penn does.

Poor Jane Harman. She only wanted to be Chairperson of the House Intelligence Committee, so neither she nor her staff had time to to read the bills and find out what is legal and what is not legal. Hopefully she will use some of her spare time to read the constitution. And, if time permits, she can then read the bills that she sponsors. Or, how about hiring someone else who would write her bills?
